A while back i fixed the A/C on my old 86, and i been loving it everyday, when its 85-95 degrees outside it keeps you cool enough that you dont get hot inside but it dont never get coole enough that you have to turn it off of high, i have herd of peoples blowing 33 degrees at the vents, i really dont think mine is quite that good so what can i do to get it up to *****?

Make sure your system is fully charged with refrigerant would be a start.

Im pretty sure its fully charged, when i filled it up i filled it to around 40-45psi on my little gauge thats when it said it was full on the gauge?

With R134a you need to cut out pressure for the AC compressor around 16psi for those cold temps.

You dont want the low side any lower than about 30 psi or the evaporator will be below freezing and freeze up. It should be around 40 psi. The first thing I would do is get a thermometer and actually measure the temp at the dash vent. Also, what is the pressure on the high side? that helps troubleshoot too.

PLus keep in mind that those who may be getting temps that low are probably running the ac with the coolant shutoff solenoid mod installed thus stoping the flow of hot coolant thru the heater core.

Mine has the heater core bypassed right now cause my heater core blew,

I will get a thermometer and i will check it, do i need something special?

Nope, they have AC thermometers at advance for 4.99 or if cash is tight a kitchen thermometer will work just fine. When you figure it out let me know...what you described is just like what my system is doing, it also does really well when it's below about 85 or 90 but above that it just makes life bearable not really cold even on max AC, and this is with new refrigerant, evap core and condensor core cleaned out, new orifice tube, new liquid line, new orings and new oil in the compressor. I'm told the old R12 cores are not efficient enough to really get as cold as they can with R134a. Not sure if this is true or not. I still should have the heater core shutoff mod. I'm pretty sure my system is fully charged. I'm told a variable orifice tube will get you colder too, but nobody explained how. I do know my high side pressures are pretty high on the manifold gauges or at least they were. Sorry for the highjack, but what applies to your truck probably applies to mine and vice versa.

An electric blower fan in front of the condenser helps. For a real wicked setup call Jon at www.nostalgicairparts.com and get an improved condenser for your truck, he's got a few options, all good and will have you blowing snotcicles . Of course a variable orfice valve is a must. Having the system properly evacuated before charging is a key factor.

I evacuated my system to around 27 in Vac before charging and 10 oz or so of PAG oil went in and so did 3.5 cans of R134a. I cheaped out and used the standard orifice tube, because the guy that was helping me said it would only amount to maybe 5*F temp difference. My duct temps I think are around 62*F when I run it on Max AC.

My junk's too cold...sweltering heat/humidity and I'm still pumping 38-degrees out the vents > on the low fan setting:thumbsup: bbbrrrrrrrrr :sly

Those duct temps stink. That system is in serious need of overhauling.

My gran pa had a thermomter laying around so i went over there and stuck it in the driver side vent turned it on max and walked away came back and it was laying on around 30 degrees:dunno:sly:thumbsup: so i guess what it is, is that im use to newer vehicles that blow the air like a hurricane, so my next question is can i do something to make my blower fan blow more?

30 degrees = trouble!

If you get below freezing on the evaporator, you WILL ice that thing up and you WILL start having liquid refrigerant returning to the compressor and that will destroy that thing pronto...

Like NJken said, you don't want your low side pressures to get too low, or you will not have anymore superheat, and you could run the risk of getting liquid into the suction side of the compressor which is a big no-no!

Sounds like you may be a little undercharged, and your low pressure switch seems to not be cutting out... :dunno
