Any leaks need to be plugged up first. Intercooling can be adapted fairly easy to any turbo pack you decide to run and most of the harder work will be at the front where you actually have to mount cooler itself.

Your EGT numbers while cruising also seem to be normal. Thats what mine did before the pyro took a crap. However I never reached 1100F even in a hard climb senario, but granted I've never worked my truck hearly as hard as some guys here in terms of trailer weight or sustained hills.

Hardest run I ever do with it is up to the local ski hill and thats where I hit 1100 once just trying to see how fast it can go up 5-12%. But no trailer is attached.

I hated my turbo before the intercooler, made plenty of boost, just too laggy for heavy towing. After the cooler its a whole different deal. Truck doesnt feel much faster but tows way better. Before on hills at 65mph Id have to downshift to drive, and lose rpm in drive. Now no downshifting and I lose no rpm

Retarded timing will also cause high egt's, I discovered this when I had my truck timed by a shop last year. I got on the freeway and floored it and had no power and the pyro shot up fast.

I have no idea where I'm at with my timing now but with my old non wastegate banks, I can floor it from stoplight to stoplight and get the boost up to 8 or 9 once it gets spooled up.

I just wish It didnt have some much turbo lag off the line. From what I hear, a wastegated turbo helps take care of that problem.

Somewhere I've posted boost and EGT #'s at RPM for my brown truck. Obviously my truck blew up, but I still think thats because of faulty machine work that I had done to the cylinder heads.
Let me see if I can find those numbers, but just and FYI while I do so, my system pushed 15psi on more than one occasion.

Looks like I was normally running around 12-13psi at a max of 1100*EGT at 2000RPM +-100RPM. At the end of the motors life I saw it hit 15psi a couple times, but it was down on power even with the higher boost, and in the days prior to the motor blowing for the last time I was hauling a trailer and witnessed the motor push my pyro over the 1200* line for the first time, and that was with only 7psi boost.

Sean, those numbers aren't bad (well, except at the end)...especially for normal numbers, and that's with the intercooler, right?. That's encouraging...

I'm not married to the 088, nor am I itching to get rid of it...I'm just trying to figure out how well it'll work with an intercooler, and figure out whether it's worth my time to seal up the leaks and install the IC with the 088 or if I'm better off with a wastegated turbo. FWIW timing was good as of 2005, and I haven't touched the IP since...

Black dawg, which turbo do you have? The square-box 088 or the rectangular-box other one? And, what sorts of boost/EGT numbers do you see? The IC I have is off a 6.0hno, so it sounds like, if I keep the 088, my setup will be very similar to yours...for that matter, do you have any pics of your install? I'm very curious...

Thank you all again ;Sweet greatly appreciating the feedback!!

93f250idi,

If that is directed at 6_Nebraska_IDI's. He is going to repair the engine, so I believe that nothing is for sale from that truck. This is a long term project for Sean, to the point it was a 2wd truck when he bought it. I think he may be buried in this truck when his time comes......
