went to turn it on tonight and snap crackle pop there goes the power supply. i shut it off immediately so i hope the rest of the machine survived...

btw, back at my old job, i built a small enclosure to house the controller for a water jet cutter. I managed to get a good deal on a 1000 btu ice qube brand piggy back a/c unit. Worked great in the hot shop during the summer. Might be an idea for you.

no...im about as low tech as you can get...the actual table controller is fine....i just need to modify my computer cabinet and put a dessicant canister in next to the tower

Never gave humidity much thought, and I use mister to cool end mills on the cnc router.

Dialectic grease, neoprene, etc. Nonconducting and would make it more resilient.

I once saw some garcore gamers put their xboxs into an enclosure filled with baby oil. Baby oil doesnt conduct electricity so it didn't mess up any of the electronics, and since it is a liquid is has very good cooling properties. Thought it was neat.

Alot of people use mineral oil for the same purpose. You can get it in large quantities for horses at a vet iirc.

My bad, I actually think its mineral oil. Better check before one decides they want to go and dip their electronic components into it

Gamers are weird so i could see them using baby oil lol. But no thanks...i worked on a pump that the motor was sealed and filled with mineral oil....what a friggin mess!

There was a really "cool" write-up on making a liquid-cooled shop PC in Popular Mechanics about 2-3 months ago...can't find the exact article...but it was completely sealed and self-contained, with recirculating coolant and a heat exchanger. I'll find it and post it later.

Mineral oil is what they put in high voltage transformers and switchgear now (since PCB's were outlawed...)

It's good at circulating heat and insulating, but it can disolve certain plastics on the circuit boards for the power supply.

Silicone oil is used now too, and it's non reactive with plastics!

I know someone across the bay (Baldwin Co) who has 15000 gals of old transformer oil...he runs it in his truck and tried to get me to, also, but I'm pretty sure it contains PCBs. But if you don't care about the environment or don't mind the occasional tumor, you can run your diesel on it!

well the new power supply didnt do it...looks like ill be looking for a cheap laptop to try and replace this desktop. hopefully i can ghost the HD or something...

this sucks...

as of right now im out of stock on the firewall plates (the large ones) and without the table i cant make any more...

Laptops are not very good as there power management systems put them into sleep mode, not good. I briefly used a laptop. I had it setup so it would not go into sleep mode, but the power plug comes out too easily, battery dies and 2 hours of cutting time is wasted. If your using mach 3 they recommend not to use a laptop. I would look on ebay you can find dell optiplexes all day for under $60 that will run cnc controller programs easily. Most of the used stuff on ebay would walk all over the computer I use.
Also a laptop is too easy to use for something else. For trouble free use you really need a computer dedicated just too the cnc, it will make life much easier.
