It has a SAE 2 on there now, but that can easily be changed. The plan is to repower my black F250 with it..... after it been leaned on a bit. Making it fit is the trick.:rotflmao

Be patient with me.... This is going to take a while.LOL

So you could reuse your T18 with it? Cause the IDI adapter plate is from SAE3 to whatever randomness Ford conjured for the diesel-specific transmissions (why not make the adapter from the industrial SAE3 to the car/truck big-block Ford pattern is beyond me), so if your DT466 can accept SAE3 trans then you could just bolt up the IDI adapter plate along with the T18 behind it to the DT466... Do you know what bolt pattern the engine block itself has? Also how much longer it is than the IDI?

Don't laugh. Somebody already put a Duramax in one.

As for the DT... How did you get so lucky as to get one with a reward facing sump? Most of the ones I have seen have the largest part of the oil pan right up front... where it would hit our crossmember easily.

yea but why would he? that trans wont last five minutes behind that engine. and he's not gonna drive it under 50% throttle so as to not kill it.

it needs some 8spd air shifted automatic built for big power. :rotflmao

The T19 would not live very long behind the DT once I get done.;Really The Block is generic for SAE bellhousings. You just bolt the different SAE bellhousing to the block and that's it as far as I know. But, I'm new to the DT and medium duty diesels in general.

There is no way I could talk Dad into replacing the 289 with an IDI.LOL

Where does one acquire such a motor? I've been thinking of one, or at least a turbo from one.

eBay is where this one come from. You'll see DT turbos on there from time to time as well.

I made sure it was a rear sump prior to bidding.;Sweet

After a statement like that we demand a detailed thread on the build and also dyno sheets :D

Well, it's not going to be done for a while, but it doesn't take much to get to serious power levels. I'm shooting for 600-800HP (1300-1800 lb/ft) at the wheels. I've talked with several DT tractor pulling specialists and most have the same mods in mind. Hypermax is crazy expensive for the same machine work/parts. Gene's Machine Shop and Wipeout Enterprises, both have reasonable pricing.

Basically, valve releif's cut in the top of the stock pistons, cam, different valve springs, mild head porting (optional), stock valves, balance and heat treat the crank and rods. Stock rings, sleeves (with fire rings), head gastket (mod'ed for fire rings), head and main bolts, P-pump with mods, injectors, injection lines, and a set of twins, and govenor it to 3800-4000 rpm.

Forgot to answer that.......sorry.

From the furthest point at the back of the head to the front edge of the fan clutch is 48 inches. That is about 8 or so inches longer than the IDI. Now, the width.....the IDI is much wider.

Lol you guys. I dont even know what it is. I know its the same engine that was in that roller, but I always thought it was an early cummins motor because of the individual valve cover design. I thought that was a Cummins specific thing.

It's one solid valve cover, if you look close you can seen than it's just a single cover and not individual ones like on an early cummins.

I just helped a friend stick one of these in a tractor over the weekend, and it didn't look nearly as big once it was in there. Now, it's time to build everything around it.

Interesting, maybe you could simply do away with the mechanical fan and install a pair of electric pushers up front so give you some clearance extra? Or you're planning on modifying the firewall? Also, what are your thoughts on the transmission to be used?

Makes my back hurt just looking at that thing! We used to do a ton of headwork for all the local pullers, from pressure testing to custom valve work, etc. The head alone is more than one man should lift! Hell of a motor though! My neighbor has several he pulls, some running on alcohol, they sound REALLY cool! :)

That and converting to a serpentine belt setup. I'd like to leave the firewall alone if possible. I like having A/C and heat. LOL I'm looking a Fuller and Spicer medium duty tranny's.
