Probably a sticky or leaking injector, judging by the "white smoke while cranking" remark. Try removing the injector where you found oil, that may be the culprit.

chatty bunch here, another bump +1 i got the kit from accuratediesel, fast shipping. i bought new shoes today. Hankok DynaPRO AT 235/85/16 -- $770 - all 4 mounted from a local shop; current tires are 285/85/16, but I am going back to stock. friend followed me home today, and told me I am smoking a bit blueish.. hopefully the injector kit takes care of that.

the verdict on the brakes --- rear pads installed incorrectly, front pads down to 10%, 4bar out of the vacuum pump.. question is, do any of the national stores sell quality rebuilds?

I put oreilly shoes on the rear of mine. I have not done the front yet, and I am curious about the vacuum pump. I don't have a gauge to check it right now. I did replace the master cylinder also...it was seeping a little out of the bottom so I went ahead and swapped it for. New one. My pedal is still mushy, so I have work to do. I am going to replace everything on the front. From lines to calipers, rotors, pads and hardware, because they are wore out. I am surely suspicious of the vacuum pump though. Makes me wish I had hydro boost.....

Rear brakes weren't any worse than other drum brakes I have done. I had a leaky wheel seal in mine that soaked the left side shoes and had to replace that at the same time. I think it took a couple of hours or so to do everything and bleed it all out.

Cool. My injector line kit is in today. I'll be replacing those first thing in the morning. I got the wheels painted black. Truck looks soo much better now. Any decent junk yards around here? I need some interior work.

you just can't get ahead of things. I fixed a vacuum leak that prevented the vacuum pump from providing any help to the booster. In the mean time I noticed my driver side rear wheel is dancing with the wolves. I just had them mount brand new DynaPros in the back, and had them inspect my rear shoes. It turns out, they did something wrong on re-assembly, and my wheel wobbles like crazy. Quick inspection reveals that the rear hub was not put back in place correctly...GRRRR!! I got nothing that will lift or take those lug nuts off.. Argh!!

Its really sad when you pay someone to work on your rig and they "F" it up. Whats a person to do but stand there watching them make the repairs. And why pay someone for doing the work wrong... Whats with that... I have been thru that ringer too. All I wanted some young ******* in a major tire shop do is remove my spare I was running on and place it back under the truck. I had thrown some thread on the front rim with the chrome wheel... But nope.. The guy installs a new tire. And trys to place it under the truck.. He had no idea I wanted the new tire placed on the front because all the other rims were chrome. Finally he gets it done but... He leaves off the chrome cap.... Another Darwin Award Winner in the making... That shop is now finally closed... And probably for good reason...

If I could fix one thing, and one thing every night, I would be well ahead of the game. The wheel has been remounted. It was not pushed all the way onto the lip, due to some dirt, and tolerances. They cleaned it up, and sanded it down a bit, and the wheel is back and perfect.

On Friday, I tried to replace my door handle, only to have the door cable snap, as I was cleaning the grease previous owner caked the latch with. This is going to be PITA to replace. It looks easier to put a new door. 97 XLT doors with power everything -- anyone? :)

My next order of business is to fix my brakes. I fixed the vacuum leak, and the booster is now working. I got a set of pads upfront, and need a drivers side rear parking brake cable. I can't do this myself since I don't have a big enough jack, or the tools to take the wheels off.

I should fix my speedometer, and odometer (ZF5 5-speed). What is a common failure? Where is the sensor? Does anyone have GPS assisted sensor to provide accurate speed?

Remember, we have a new u pull it here in town now, with a whole lot full of f-150 trucks that have not been cannibalized too bad yet. I went this morning and got a new bench seat with flip down arm rest and cup holders for 38 dollars. No 250's on the lot though, so no drive train parts for diesels.
