I put in a high-flow Walker straight-thru muffler on my 7.3 and it didn't increase HP. But it did bring down my EGT's 200-some degrees.

You may not be able to tell any difference in horsepower, but you may see a small increase in MPGs. You may see a larger mileage increase if your stock muffler is plugged for any reason (like it's original and has 300,000+ miles on it), but I still wouldn't expect anything drastic. I'm thinking maybe 1 or 2 if the stock muffler is pretty plugged up.

I put a Dynomax system on my N/A and it was noisy as hell. I hated the racket. Yes, maybe a slight performance gain but I think I was just pushing it harder trying to outrun the drone.

My final fix was to put a turbo on. With the same exhaust it is now very quiet for normal driving but still has a rumble when you get on it.

My advice, get a stock type muffler or go turbo with a straight-through. I do recommend changing the y-pipe, I think you can get this part separately (part numbers are somewhere in this site).

My stock system had the screens in the tip and sounded like an air hose. Had a shop put 3inch pipe with a flowmaster on it. Made no difference in power but lots more noise around 1700 rpm.

Curious as u read thru hundreds of post about different setups with tubros n exhaust, would a catback exhaust make any difference in power/mph.

Also those running str8 pipes how big or small n is there a decentnway to clean out stock exhaust without taking it off

The general consensus is either 3" or 4" is fine for straight pipes. You can go bigger than 4", but there's no performance gains to be had. When I finally turbo mine, I'll be running 4" straight. While I have hollowed out a couple of cats on 7.3PSD trucks, I've never tried a muffler. It may not be possible. I did have to remove the cats before going to work on them.
