My 7.3 idi is stalling shortly after driving but will start and idle perfect even at high rpms. Took the filter off when it died and it only was half full of diesel. I have new gas tanks all new lines even changed the fuel pump again . Any ideas ?
If the fuel filter is half-full after driving it, it's NOT THE IP!Welcome to the forum. Sounds like the pump internals are gummed up. Please remove the filter and replace it but... Fill the new filter with any brand auto trans fluid. Then get the engine running till you hear a different engine running sound and shut down the engine. What your trying to do is get the atf in all the injection pump passages and into the injectors. Let it sit like this over night. Next day drive it hard to flush out the gum in the pump.Bet that will fix the posted issues. Also start running a fuel additive like Stanadyne or one of the other brands this site recommends. they keep the injection system clean and lubed. Today's fuel does not have the cleaners or lubes in it to protect our pumps. Even the red off road "farm fuels" are not using the normal sulfur diesel any longer. If you find any jet fuel it really is diesel but it has NOTHING to lube the pumps with. Its very dry so run some lube in it..
