Hey guys I have this f350 used to have a 460 but we did a 7.3 idi swap and installed an ats 088 turbo kit on it we got cheap. This is a pretty heavy pickup stock with a custom flat bed it weighs about 8600lbs empty. The problem is that the best boost I have gotten out of it has been 6psi and that was climbing a 7% grade on flat ground I'm only getting 3 or 4 psi. I know these turbo are kinda weak anyway but I'm thinking it should at least put out 8 or 9. I considered getting a different t4 cartridge and installing the ats housings on it but not sure if the housings are why it doesnt want to boost. Anyone with insight to how I can make this turbo set up boost better it would be appreciated.

We tried 2 but it was smoking way too much and didn't make much difference in boost so we backed it off one flat

Look around every exhaust connection for soot, that will point you to an exhaust leak which most likely is your issue.

I thought that but I didn't find any soot so I got my stethoscope out and listened for exhaust and intake leaks and could find none.

I considered that there may be excessive carbon build up in the turbine housing but I havent taken it apart to see. It has a pretty large housing on it though so I don't see how carbon could build up that badly.

The egts are higher than I would like. Pulling the hill with the turbo at 6 psi I was running around 1100.

Have you timed the truck? You may be running too retarded to get that kind of egts with so little fuel adjustment

thats where I like turbo idis to be timed at, so thats not the issue... What kind of intake setup do you have?

Its just the stock intake with the obvious add ons for the turbo.

How good is the seal between your intake hat and intake? When my seal wasn't tight, I had a boost leak and higher EGT's. Look around the intake neck for any oily residue that could clue you in on a potential boost leak.
