so... sorry this is a little wordy but wanted to make sure all the info is in here...
long story short junkyard motor... long complicated motor swap with custom drivetrain into an older ford.... I was told motor was a low millage running perfect and was pulled due to bad trans and other issues with an older wrecker that belonged to the junkyard... tested the motor and it had good compression +/- 400 psi if I remember right...
finally got it all in with all fluids and massive coolant leak out of the exhaust pipe and into the oil...
first check... the coolant leaks down into pan overnight (first indication of block being cracked??)
2nd check... cooling system fails pressure test...
3rd check... cavitation test (valve covers off... valve train components off... 100-175 psi through glow plug hole... forced piston to bdc and re-pressurized) result is coolant overflow from radiator (almost instantly) at 75-100 psi...
because the coolant also leaks out from the radiator into the pan overnight I am assuming that it is indeed a cracked block and not a cracked head.... ( i forgot to repeat leak down test with piston at tdc but I will try this first thing in the morning)
so.... anybody see any flaws with the above tests or logic I am new to these motors and would love somebody to point out something that I might be wrong or some way that this might still be a head gasket??? (i haven't pulled the heads yet in case the junkyard is going to be really extra nice and decide to take it back even with no warranty...)
