6.9 starting issues have me stumped.

When checking the output voltage of the relay, would you check it in the harness side or the relay side of the resistor? It IS a Solid State controller (apparently a very late 86, with bullet style connectors).

You check it at the output side of the relay (harness side), that way you know if you have enough voltage output thru the relay.

Thanks. I THINK we had a bad relay. Replaced it, and now we have a glow:D. It starts now, but takes three attempts. I started a new post questioning if we may have a bad starter, too, and may be one of the reasons for hard starting. We read several posts that you needed at minimum 200 rpm to start, and we seem to be at 155. Thanks for your help!

after three LONG cranks, she'll come to life.

Sounds like it isn't cranking fast enough. Compression and heat are the ignition source. Not cranking fast enough and possibly not enough heat. Batteries, cables, and starter are possibilities.
