OK the fact that it's in an excursion makes a HUGE difference. From what i hear they're a lot lighter than a Super Duty. Less Weight=Better Fuel Mileage

we get about 21mpg on ours

I gotta call BS on this one. Our 2000 Ex gets 14 on the highway, 10 in town and 8.5 pulling the TT. I've read aLOT of mpg threads on ex's and all of them are about the same.

Oh and if you (OP) decide on a V10, try to find one with 4.30 gears. It's the preferred ratio if you're going to pull anything.

How tall of an OD do the 6 speed's have? I know the ZF 5 speed in the trash truck has a .77 Overdrive. Is it the same on the ZF 6?
BTW, Is there any company out there still making a Super Charger for the V10? I Know a few years ago there were several places churning them out, and now they're few and far between.

Paxton makes a Centrificle one(belt drive turbo).Wipple used to make a traditional one.I think Banks or Roush made one too.

I also found where Banks makes a PowerPack kit for them. It costs about $1300 without the exhaust system past the Y pipe. Basic power adders(Cold air intake, headers, programmer. that kinda stuff)

well, the Y pipe on the V10 is a joke.Ditching the exhaust system for a better designed on would do wonders for the triton. That 180degree turn about 5inch wide along with all the other twist and turns to come to the Y pipe are major restrictions.

You dont need a supercharger on a 05 to current V10. they are a rocket. They are stock 365hp and 457 ft lb tq. I would love to get one.
The early 99's were turds at 265 hp. In late 99-04 they were 315 hp. but in 05 WOW;Sweet

I have to agree with you there. If i ever do get one, the first thing to go is the entire exhaust system from the manifolds back. Start over with headers, and make my own 2.5" true dual exhaust system that dumps in front of the rear tires.

You're right. the 3 valve engines are MONSTERS. Our BONE STOCK '04 F250 with the 5.4 will go 0-60 in 11 seconds! Not too bad for a 6400# truck huh? It also will roast a set of 265/75-16 tires in first and second gear. Did I mention it has a 4R100, and 3.73's?

Something must have changed from 04 to 08's, I have 08' F-250's 5.4, auto with 3.73 at work for delivery trucks. Roasting the tires are not on the menu. As far towing goes with the 5.4, its adequate. A lowprofile trailer load weighing in at 8k will knock it down into single digits. Empty(no trailer) we are running average of 13 mpg. These trucks average 75-90k miles a year.
I have wondered about the v-10, I have 1 08, f250 6.4 and it only averages 15mpg. Hard to justify the extra cost for 2mpg average difference. The mpg's are city/hwy averages, plus we sell trucks before 200k miles.

I can't say much for the current V10, only one I've played with was a 2000, it sucked. My N/A IDI has more torque, same bout my dads 05 F250 5.4L torque shift 3.73LS, it sucks, no balls, no fuel ecconomy(sp) 12mpg 4 hi or 2 hi. town or freeway.

i test drove an '08 with 3-valve V10 and the Torqshift...very nice. Smoooooth, quiet power and lots of it. 117 more hp and only 43 less lb/ft torque than my 7.3, and no DPF bs like the newer diesels. plus the fuel economy difference isn't what it used to be. it's on my short list for my next truck in a couple years.

on the RV forum i'm on, the V10 owners love them. they seem to be good for 250k+ miles with basic maintenance, with reports of some pushing 400k in shuttle service.
