Just installed a 5" straight pipe and dumped it infront of the rear wheel. So far I like it, maybe a bit too much turbo flutter. Any suggestions on minimizing the flutter without losing the "open" exhaust effect?:thanks:

5 inch from where the previous muffler was or from the dp back? The more you open up the exhaust, the more flutter you'll get

Swany,

3" DP bells up to 5" and then straightback and 45*s out in front of wheel. Cats gone and so is muffler.
Cant get much more open can I?

well, ya know, if you cut off the exhaust right at the downpipe.......j/k! Must have a sweet sound!

I drove it around for a day with it exiting right out the DP under my feet, that was ugly! And for the sweet sound...the turbo spools up SO nice now.

It's a balancing act: open up the exhaust, and you get flutter. To reduce the flutter, you need to create enough restriction to flatten out the pulses.

Every PSD that I have straight piped had the flutter, I install the Dynomax race bullet mufflers now and it gets rid of the flutter nicely.

I bet you'd be happy if you were to put a 5" straight through muffler on. Make sure it's the type with the little scoops inside the muffler but you should be able to see through it like looking through a regular pipe. If you go that route, you'll still have good engine sound, ton of turbo whistle, and much less flutter. They sound great this way. I know some guys have also used those short straight-through resionaters. -phillip
