Question: Has anyone with the new 99-current body GM trucks tried to retro-fit the 89-99 GM 4x4 shifter housing? The reason I'm asking is because I was really fond of the old housing with the 4x4 graphic that showed the front wheels engaging that was also illuminated (maybe when in 4-wheel but I can't remember.) I've been thinking about the possibility of trying to swap-in one of the older plastic housings in place of the plain shifter housing that is found on the trucks now.

Were there any electrical connections in there that woulod be necessary for it to finciton properly? If necessary, I'm thikning that I could tap into the feed for the 4x4 light on my instrument cluster and use that to feed power to the floor light but I'm not any sort of electrician so I may be completely off base.

I think that shifter that illuminated was simply a piece of fluorescent orange plastic sliding under the clear plastic. I dont believe there would be any electrical mods required.
