Well, pending my 16x8 aluminum rims coming in the mail today, I'm getting new tires. I have the option of running a 235/85 or a 265/75. I like the thought of better economy with 235's, but I'm wondering if a srw crew cab would make them look like pizza cutters. Ive got 265/75's on currently and they look decent. How do 235's handle?

I ditched the 255/85 plan, as they're $400 more, and only would've netted me 3 1/2 mph more at highway speed.

they are pretty much the same size, 235/85/r16 comes out to 31.7 and 265/75/r16 comes out to 31.6. i went from 235s to 265s on the front of my truck when i got new tires and i cant tell the difference. the 265s may be alittle wider but it could also be the allterrains i went too and if they are its only by 1/4 inch max. i dont notice it really at all

Diameters will hardly change at all between the two. Theoretically you will have more rolling resistance with the 265's, but I never noticed a mileage difference when I ran them.

the 235's do look like pizza cutters....i almost put 265's on my truck so it looked a bit better (little wider tires) but i ended up going with 285's cause the cost difference wasnt that great.

235's look funny on 7" wheels - and already hard to seat.

265s would be better. I would go with 285s personally.

I don't know why everybody says that when you put wide and tall tires they ruins the mileage. My winter tires are 265/75R16 and from the moment i swap them under i lose 2 mpg to my summer tires which are 355/65R18. With my brohters E-350 swap from 235/85R16 to 285/75R16 wasn't that noticeable, but it certainly didn't lose any mpg... So from my experience 285 are ok in every way...

255/85/16, thats the size I would stick to if you dont want a super wide tire. 20mm = 2cm, 2.54cm in an inch, so its roughly a .85ish" wider than 235's. Plus much taller.

I would go w 265s.
the 235s look like pizza cutters and i would imagine a real PITA to put a tire that narrow on a wheel that wide

Thanks for the responses. I think I'm gonna stick with a 265, as I know they work fine under my 2wd and don't stick out past the wheel wells. If I find a cheaper set of 255/85's locally by Monday then I'll give them a try.
