This thread is to nominate yourself and location for the 2018 Oilburners Rally.

Post your username, proposed location, and if you have any ideas of activities in the area, and your proposed time-frame.

I will leave this thread open through:

August 15, 2017

To allow sufficient time for anyone wanting to have the opportunity to prepare information for their proposed location.

On the 15th, I will close this thread, open a new thread, with the locations from this thread and put it up for a vote, the same way the 2017 site was chosen.

I am also posting a link to this thread in the Oilburners facebook group for those that frequent facebook more than the forum.

The KOA in NH would be more than happy to have us back and the same goes for Mt Washington Auto road. There is lots of other things to do there also. I would have to check the distance but we could go into Epping NH and maybe go down the 1/4 mile. There is a lot of site seeing to do in that area also.

My second place would be in RI. If people are interested in beaches and seafood, this is the place. We could take the ferry to block island and hang there for a day. We could even all take a drive to my shop to hang there and do some wrenching if needed. There is also a dyno shop not too far away we might be able to take a trip to.

As far as dates go, I would either do it the July 4th week or a little after if it seems to be more practical.

Hopefully that's the info your looking for. I'm sure there is a KOA in RI we can get.

One thing to keep in mind for the time frame, most schools are in session until almost June 1st. I know a number of the school districts in Indiana probably other states are now using the "balanced schedule". I know of a couple districts that start today and many start next week. Many of the members have school aged children. As everyone knows once school starts, vacations are done......

Well as said before I would be willing to host as well. I think what would be best is to give some variety for people to vote for so I would potentially like to host in Hot Springs, Arkansas probably in early august which is the quiet time for that area. It's a great place to stay with all the water attractions especially with the national park to the north. In town there is the galaxie conection museum for our Star Wars fans along as a adventure golf resort and a room escape place at the Oakland racing and gaming casino. I like this area because when you want to have quiet peaceful rest you can spend time at the national park and hot springs or you can take the family into town and have a good time although I think no mufflers sold me on his trip to be honest LOL

Great idea. I second Hot Springs as a destination. Great KOA campground there. Lots to do for families (parks, downtown, steam), centrally located, and a bit cooler since its in the mountains.

Host should have been a rally attendee at least once.

Campground needs fullhookups, cabins, pool, playground, tent sites, and laundry facilities. Also, most trucks hauling a camper are crew cabs. So longer sites are preferred.

Time frame needs to be during summer break. Most attendees have school age kids. Having it before school is out, or, after summer break is over..... there will be poor attendance.

There should be stuff to do that isn't crazy expensive and family friendly. Keep in mind, too many activities is just as bad and nothing at all. Running from activity to activity all day every day is exhausting. This is vacation. Folks need time to relax.

Campground is the key. Some are happy to save site months in advance for a group, some won't. Some love groups and rallies, some hate them.

Also, historically, the further west the rally is, the poorer the attendance. Most guys (not all) that come year in and year out are east of the Appalachian mountains.

Just some things to consider from a repeat offender (host).

that's one reason I try to stick with a KOA, there generally pretty well equipped and have a nice clean area.

the only thing that could get pricy is if we go to MT Washington but the price is based on numbers, the more people the cheaper it is. other than that everything else is in a decent price range, some even free.

One thing about history of the rally's ...... In the beginning it started out as the eastern IDI rally back then the majority of the people that would gather were on the eastern part of the US. That being said IMO does not restrict it to just the east. BUT it also does not mean that more than one rally could not happen in two different parts of the country. If the demand was worth the time to do it. I have travels long distances to rallies as have others, icanfixall (Gary)holds the distance record coming from California to Kentucky.

I would be willing to help with a Western Maryland/PA/Ohio based event. We did an Ohio rally in 2006 that was well attended, and I'm sure that campground would have us back. Harpers Ferry area is great as well, and lots of vacation type things to do there. I have a friend who lives there who I could tap if necessary for help.

im curious to see where this will go.. I haven't stayed in Ohio so I would be up for a rally there. I would like for everyone to come up my way but I know its not close to the majority so no hard feelings. to be honest if a rally will be much more than 1,000 mile drive for me that would put me on the fence.
