starting in 1988 the 300 block got the 5 speed manual trans instead of the 4 speed manual. i beleive both were made by borg warner. my question is, is the 5 speed called zf5?
i checked the gears vendors website for the trans gears, and for the 5 speeds they only have zf5's. thats why i was asking. where can i get the gear ratios of the light duty trans?
3.91, 2.24, 1.49, 1.00, 0.80 M5ODR2 which is made by mazda, internal slave royal PITA to replace. rubber plugs like to dryrot and seep oil killing the syncros and eventually leading to trans melt down. decent trans for a DD, poor reverse for backing trailors or any heavy use.
4 speed was dropped for 88, came back for 89 (t18)
The F150's got the M5OD R2 (Mazda) and the Rangers, Broncos, Explorers that were 5 speeds got the M5OD R1 trannys. Now I believe that the F250's with the 300 I-6 did get the ZF5 I think but that is because they were 3/4 ton trucks and where for heavier duty use.
