how can i tell if i have an 11" or a 12" clutch while it's in the truck? and is there a way to measure how much wear is left on the clutch while it's in the truck?

i'm debating if i should replace it before i move back to MN. i don't tow anything with this truck, but i will for the move. so i'm doing every last bit of preventive maintenance i can.

Unless it has been changed, it should be an 11 inch. All the catalogs I got show the 11 inch as stock and the 12 inch as a heavy duty replacement. Both LUK and Brute make the 12 and I am sure there are more.

My 83' came factory with a 12". It had the 3 finger centrifugal presure plate design, and not the multifinger presure plate. When I replaced it, an 11" was all that Ford offered, so they shrunk it thanks to the better presure plate design I guess. I'd certainly prefer a 12" if it were still available.
