100% WMO???

I have a guy in town here that claims he is running 100% WMO in a 99 powerstroke? I cant really see that being possible in our climate, we woke up this morning to high 40's(degrees that is) and he claims to never have to plug it in. The main reason I ask is I see no smoke when he leaves and hammers down, the truck is virtually stock with the exception of a programmer. My main question is this possible?

I would be pretty skeptical of that. Ask him to open the fuel drain for the fuel filter and see what comes out. That will give ya the truth.

Unless he is heating the oil somehow I doubt it. I ran 100% but I had to start my truck on diesel and shut it down on diesel so i could start it the next day. If he was heating his fuel then i can see that working.

There was an article in Diesel Power I think it was about a guy that ran strait ATF in an Excursion. He literally went to a tranny shop and pumped it strait in his factory fuel tank. Didn't even filter it except for a filter he had on his pump.

I tried to in my idi but soon discovered that I had to thin the wmo a little. I did this with 10-15% rug. At first the rug was old and not for automobile consumption. I could start on it but it was difficult and the truck would smoke alot then not so much when the engine warmed up. It could be easier for powerstrokes to run on wmo because of the electronic engine controls. Probably would smoke less too. The biggest problem I had with running 100% wmo was my factory 6 micron filter. The powerstroke filter is rated at 14 microns so it's possible but unlikely he's running 100% wmo. I could translate his claim to mean he doesn't put diesel in his wmo tank.

I know a guy that does it successfully. He claims the second generation (still the 7.3 liter but not the original version) is best, I think 99-02. He heats his oil and "loops" the return fuel to the filter (not the tank). The injectors are very expensive, however, if you mess them up. Each one costs what a whole set does for an IDI. Even a little bit of diesel, or better yet jet A (kerosene) helps enormously to thin the WVO. I would believe it could work straight at 40 degrees. The problem is WVO fuel seepage past the rings until the engine warms up is not a good thing.
