New design head gaskets/Spacers/Shims, Studs, and Timing

Any one have a used gasket to send? Msg from Gaskets-To-Go 10:15 AM (12:15am his time) Hi Robb, Thanks, I took a look at the picture, but it is only a silhouette and doesn't allow me to see any detail. I am sure that we can make something that would replicate the ROL gaskets in the...

Mahle pistons for the 7.3 OEM Turbo

As the new head gaskets seem to be resolving, was wondering if anyone new a better price on the Mahle pistons. I got this quote from EPP: The piston kits with rings are available for $91.37 ea. The manufacturer show stock in 2 warehouses. Thanks! Bob Bob Everett...

New design head gaskets/Spacers/Shims, Studs, and Timing

Seems this company in Thailand is for real: http://www.gasketstogo.com/ and here is their example page: http://www.gasketstogo.com/examples.htm They are consulting with: http://www.sealinfo.com/ So right now we have two companies working on the best solution for a new head gasket.

New design head gaskets/Spacers/Shims, Studs, and Timing

7.3 - 6.9 engines. The V-R gaskets are the same, made for both engines. The shims would be made to match, i would think. Don't know any advantage in designing separate gaskets or shims. Someone who has had both motors apart.. what do you think?

New design head gaskets/Spacers/Shims, Studs, and Timing

New message from: armin | goofboard [email protected] (BestGasket) Robb, sorry about the wacky phones. Double layer leakage – a worthy concern. The only experience we have a 2-layer gasket is with Flathead Fords. The two customers who tried it reported back with no leaks. Can I...

New design head gaskets/Spacers/Shims, Studs, and Timing

I don't think MLS will work. It is noted in many places that the manufacturers wants no more than .002" out of square between the block and head over a 21" head and a honed surface on both block and head. It's possible we have more flex in the block than that on an 18 year old + engine and it...

New design head gaskets/Spacers/Shims, Studs, and Timing

I've contacted 7 different companies. (Have a new contact in Thailand that I was forwarded. I've had problems with 3rd world production. Kinda hard to get a guy to make good on something if he lives in the shop with the hand cranked bellows and an old fashioned anvil. I'm probably biased but...

New design head gaskets/Spacers/Shims, Studs, and Timing

Sorry for the delay in all this but Family Court and head gaskets in a 2.3 Audi and a 4.0 Jeep took "urgent but not important" time over the last 3 months. Skip down to "New Gasket Design" if you want just the new gasket stuff. I want my truck to run for another 18 years before another...

Has anyone used an MLS type head gasket on IDI's yet?

Combustion chamber volume Fair warning: Math ahead :dunno The math for the combustion chamber has been bugging me all day. Somebody check both the thought process and the math so we can come up with good numbers. We are starting with a 7.3l, 444 cubic inch motor. Divide by 8 to determine...

Has anyone used an MLS type head gasket on IDI's yet?

How did folks that reduced the 21.5 to 1 of their engines to the 19-18- or even 17 to 1 range calculate the amount to take off the piston tops? Using high school Alg1, cross multiply and divide, have to have 119.4% volume increase to yield 18 to 1 from 21.5. How do we find the volume of...

Has anyone used an MLS type head gasket on IDI's yet?

My observation of the head gasket problem is from the outside and wanting to fix my truck right. It seems that when someone combines 1) bigger than stock turbo, 2) inter-cooler 3)20lbs+ boost the head gasket is the sacrificial lamb. I've read lots of these type of threads, here, Ford Truck...

X2 what Riotwarrior said. This last summer had a funky fade in and out thing on the brakes, started in the front and replaced everything in steps thinking I had found the problem each time. Pads, Rotors, rebuilt the master cylinder. I had just replaced the vacuum pump so i knew i had good...

Has anyone used an MLS type head gasket on IDI's yet?

I used a nice HKS gasket on mine that has some sort of rubber impregnated areas around the water and oil passages, and a compression style ring around the combustion chamber Ryan I'll blame it on the OMG (Old Man Glasses). didn't read this part before. Are your HKS gaskets MLS? If so you...

Update from Chris Workman @ Cometic: The business plan that they follow at this time up front development costs are covered up-front. The cost for development of a standard MLS is in the $3500+ range. A review with their Chief engineer will cover the special stuff required on our engines and...

Cometic gasket Sean, Just read through the 40+ pages and 2+ years of travails with the brown truck! :hail Astounding amounts of work, attention to detail, and patience. I would have been very tempted to follow through with the slug through the block. I know it's not alive, but walking...

    Clearing up some Turbo Info

Hey Justin, I'd guess I'm one of the posters that's 'driving you crazy'! Thanks for the summation. I've been asking with the incorrect assumption that most turbo systems on these trucks are the OE system (would be interesting to find out the percentages!) Mine also has the .70 A/R on the...
