    Well the machine shop finally finished my valve job on monday this week. I spent the next two days putting her back together. Drove her home last night... it runs great now.

    My thinking was to replace all valves and springs. Should the rockers really be replaced? Guess I will have them looked at. Thanks for all the input guys. The glowplugs were all intact so I do not know what the exhaust sucked up that caused this to happen or if it just happened from the 200+...

    1,3,7,2,4,6,8 are all around 400 psi on my compression tester. number 5 will not build compression due to the fact that the exhaust valve is stuck open .... possibly bent, broken or other wise not correct. I will find out more today when I tear it apart

    Ummm I think I have a problem here. I have exhaust gases coming through the valve spring on the number 5 cylinder. Now that tells me that either the valve spring is broken or the valve is broken. What are the chances it is just a spring? And how do I fix this problem HELP!!!

    Timing and blue smoke

    rotating it towards the passenger side advances the timing... but to do it right you really need a timing meter. Tell where you live maybe some close to you has a meter and can set the timing for you.

    so does yours have a good luminosity probe because mine tach pick up works but I have no lumi probe.paid 5 dollars at a local auction house for it so I did not mind that it had no probe I figured I could find a good used one or just spend the green on a new one.

    I dont know about the IDI in a 8n ford but the guy I did some work for last year has an Isuzu diesel and 5 speed bolted to to the tranny in his 50's farmall with a tricycle front end. cookoo cookoo cookoo He claims it will do 60 mph I really dont think I want to be anywhere near it when it does.

    I don't seem to have any problems getting stuck as long as I keep the front end on solid ground.... that being said I figured out an easy way to change the glow plugs... just drive in the yard till you hit a soft spot and the front end will sink to the cross member.:oops: -cuss Boy you sure can...
