Bingo.;Sweet

This Ford version lasts.Unlike the aftermarket ones.I'll only use Motorcraft sensors now, after poor results from aftermarket.
Also, this is the updated version and unlike the aftermarket,it comes with full instructions on how to re-pin for the update.
If your clip simply connects to this updated sensor, then this means someone has already re-pinned/updated your harness for you.The instructions and the extra parts are not needed if this is the case.Simply install the switch as follows:

1.Safety first! Chock the wheels.
2.Unhook the shift linkage.(just pry it off)
3.Disconnect the harness.
4.loosen the large center nut while in P position (this will help ensure you don't break the detent spring inside the trans)
5.Shift the trans into N position.
6.Unbolt the sensor and toss it.
7.While still in N position, line up the two lines on the sensor and install everything in reverse order.Ensuring,to have everything hooked and shifted into P position again before fully snugging up the center nut on the shift linkage to

Thank you so much for step by step instruction. I hope this will take care of it, i cant think of any other thing that might cause it, well maybe there is a few but hopfully this is the easiest to swap.

I have made up my mind if am @ the point where this E4OD has to come down again am going 5 spd ZF and forget about it

I'm 99.9% sure your issue will be resolved with the new range sensor. There's no need to downgrade to a ZF5 anytime soon.;)

are you experiencing the same issue like the one i have

Very similar, except I cannot pull over and simply place into Park then Drive and make the symptom go away. It will tame itself after I park it for a half hour or so, then the shift point will work a little better, but it's still too high, over 2500RPM when it wants to shift on its own. I cannot throttle up at a stop light without throttle shifting to 2nd or 3rd. Not OD light has ever lit on me either.

I have to get up to RPM, then slightly take my foot off the throttle to upshift it. Downshifting has never been an issue, except it will downshift with foot off throttle and coasting at freeway speeds, but will go into gear as soon as I add throttle.

FIPL replaced and set within range multiple times, and not because it needed it, just did it to insure I wasn't incorrect on my values, or that I didn't tighten it properly after adjustment.

A few weeks back I posted a similar thread as yours, but it didn't go beyond the FIPL adjustment business, even though I stated it was replaced and tuned. I'm hoping this is the cause. Rebuilt this transmission appx 4 years ago and with the exception of my semi-annual FIPL curses has done very well. I did go with a Heavy Duty TC, and double clutched it. Never had an issue until about a month ago.

EDIT: Hah! I just looked at when I joined, back in '09. So the trans was rebuilt in '09! I did it just to avoid future problems, and since I only paid $1500 for this truck, the extra $2500 for the trans was to start off fresh, not because it needed it. That was 8 years ago.... I ain't complainin'!!!!! Especially since this truck has been a daily driver since I bought it. I purchased with 76k original miles on it from original owner. The odo has flipped twice since, and I'm at appx 250k on it now. In repairs and purchase, I have about $6500 into it with repairs such as radiator, upgraded starter, electric fuel pump, new marine grade battery cables, one IP with injectors, batteries twice.

Who couldn't love a girl like that!??!!

Your issues are not a failing Range Sensor.Replacing it wouldn't gain you anything. Those are more along the lines of a faulty TPS.I would suspect faulty wiring if your sure, that the TPS (formerly called FIPL) is set correctly.
TIP: If your having constant issues with shift timing, and can't seem to get a TPS correctly dialed in.Make sure to start with fresh batteries in your multi meter! This one got me before!!!!

Read carefully:
After making sure your TPS is good, you could try a shift kit (transgo tugger.See the tech articles) during the install and or just a valve body inspection, you shouldn't be too surprised if you see broken/tangled springs and or stuck/sticking valves.Suspect this,if you haven't been changing your ATF at least every 30k miles.

except it will downshift with foot off throttle and coasting at freeway speeds, but will go into gear as soon as I add throttle.
This part is correct trans operation.

This part is correct trans operation.

Thanks for the tips!!

Although frustrating, I'm not complaining much, and will take it back to a trans shop for those inspections on valve bodies and springs.

Will look into those transgo's as well.

Won't do trans work myself as the wizardry is a bit over my paygrade, where-as I would tear down my engine without a thought.

Thanks again for your tips!!

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!!

Is F0TP-7F293-AA.

The harness on my truck must been the original as the 2 securing taps are from the sides

Wont do you any good I'm afraid. It's not a corrosion/dirty issue. When the range sensor fails,it's internals have "worn out" so to speak.

I wish I knew what yr the truck your talking about was ?
Is the E4OD a type F Tranny ?

His signature shows, that he has a '93 pickup. The trans code for the E4OD is "E" on the driver door jam sticker and takes Mercon (superseded with Mercon 5) spec fluid. The E4OD is pretty easy to spot. It's very large.Has a big sensor (range) under the shift linkage,an electric bulkhead connector on the other side and METRIC stamped on the pan.

Yes that is correct , I have a 93 RWD with E4OD with Range sensor FORD Part # F0TP-7F293-AA.

The other Spare part i obtained from my friend was installed on a gasser 1993 F250 with E4OD as well but the Part #( F5TP-7F293-AA /MOTORCRAFT SW5063 ) WHICH is completely different # from the one you provided me ( MOTORCRAFT SW597) in your early post .

However I am Not sure or 100% positive if the one my friend gave me will work as i checked RockAuto for comparability and it shows for F350 95-97 but the truck he pulled it from was 93 gasser.

I was hoping it will work as $$'s are tight and You are right cleaning the existing one did not a THING

95 and up transmission range Sensor replaced the old manual lever position switch. You will find the updated parts used on all E4's from 89 to 97. You will need the sensor and the connector for it to work.

Yes you correct, i picked the connector from him as well, Its setting on my bench. it is the exact one as the one offered by Rock Auto .Not sure on the wiring lay out yet but will figure that out when time comes.

My main and only concern is using the sensor F5TP-7F293-AA /MOTORCRAFT SW5063 VS the One was suggested By member : FORDF250HDXLT

Well as it turned out that F5TP-7F293-AA /MOTORCRAFT SW5063 is for 1995-97 F350 l E4 Tranny, So my thought that is should work with no problem since it is the same Transmission but just 2 years newer.

I cant imagine that it would function any different.

I swapped the Plug and used F5TP-7F293-AA /MOTORCRAFT SW5063 which i picked up from my friend.

Took test drive and Truck shifts smooth like new. So its confirmed that the 95 -97 F5TP-7F293-AA /MOTORCRAFT SW5063 will work.

Thanks every one for helping me and pointing this out
