I wonder where American fuel fits on the scales. I mean, I keep hearing that the cetane is a /lot/ lower than European fuel.

I believe Fed Law says Cetane has to be no lower than 42. Other tests say anything over 45 is useless.

I wonder if Mel has found any indication that 2-stroke has been used when Re-building IP's and injectors.

Interesting. The previous owner of my truck said he always used 2-stroke oil with every with every fill up, but I use stanadyne lubricity supplement instead. This is the first I've heard that 2-stroke oil could be harmful.

The only other supplement I uses is ATF, but very rarely.

I’ve been told that the main benefits to using Ashley’s two stroke is to replace the aeromatics removed in diesel fuel with the ulsd transition.

I've used diesel kleen with "slick diesel" since I've had my truck. I've tried a couple others that were in the auto store but this stuff seems to work better. the two stroke oil makes some sense to me but most is designed for a two stroke gas motors?

Diesel fuel in africa has nothing to do with what we have here. They are using the wrong type of 2stroke oil in their test.

We use tcw3 oil. Has no metal addatives unlike their 2 stroke oil they tested with.

Interesting data. I agree that fuel in a different country/continent leaves some questions, but it's interesting to see that at least in some circumstances it sounds like two stroke oil could be detrimental in some situations due to the fouling caused by it.

Let the controversy begin! LOL

Our tcw3 oil is ashless. Whatever junk they used is not.

There was an American study done on lubricity additives a few years ago and shared on OB. It mostly showed that all otc additives were actually worse than adding nothing at all. It also said that two stroke oil helped some and biodiesel was the very best additive you could use to delay the wear effects of ulsd #2.

I think I recall the study you are talking about, but I also recall that a bunch of additives were OK and did help. Might be worth finding that study again.

Also, for those in Oregon, all 'pump diesel' comes blended with biodiesel already - usually 10%.

You can search 2007 diesel additive lubricity test, and find the info.
Things have changed in 10 years though. Fuel, refinery additives, otc additives, etc.
