I have a 1990 f250 4x4 extended cab long bed 7.3 idi. I'm going to be doing my front wheel bearing but can't figure out what axle I have under it. Any ideas? I checked the door tag but don't see anything for the front axle.
I have a '92 F250 4x4 extended cab that had a Dana 50 up front so I would "guess" you likely have the same if it isn't a solid axle. Of course I can't say enough good things about swapping to a solid front axle like the Dana 60.
It's doable... but why?
The dana 50 TTBs are plenty solid and will run just fine.
The only thing you have to do is replace the bushings once in a while(like every 20 years or something).
The only /downside/ to the TTB is you can't just shove lift blocks under the leaf springs and lift the truck.
You have to make sure that the relationship of the centerpoint to the edges is the same, or your tires won't drive straight.
As long as you aren't screwing it up with half-baked lift kits, you'll have no trouble with it.
Also, Dana 60s are expensive.
My 83 with TTB has been hassle free. And it hasn't been rebuilt or messed with except for a fluid exchanges and grease. Ford bragged about those in the earlier 80's as being the cats meow for traction and ride stability

F-series pickups did not change the wheel bolt pattern until 1999 when the new chassis was introduced. Not really. But if you go that route GET THE DRIVER'S SIDE U-BOLT BRACKET!! The bracket is Dana 60 specific and will make the swap simpler. Just make sure you get a Dana 60 made before Ford went to the 170mm bolt pattern, and there was a change in the brake mounting somewhere around 95-96, not sure about that though.
Somewhere around 95-97 they swapped to a better bolt on caliper instead of slide pin only. Easier to keep greased. LolF-series pickups did not change the wheel bolt pattern until 1999 when the new chassis was introduced.
