I took pictures of the old 7.3 idi injectors. I’m hoping to get some information based on the appearance of these injectors. All input is appreciated. Thank you.

Looks pretty normal to me for old injectors. I'd be more curious about pop off pressure and spray pattern rather than physical injector looks.

I was a little worried about the wet/crusty/rusty colored looking one from the back drivers side cylinder? I installed new ones. My return lines got to leaking so I did the unknown age injectors as well.

Those look like injectors… ;Poke :joker: :rotflmao
Whew!’! I’m glad I got that right..
It’s been blowing out blue smoke on the beginning of fast takeoffs. It’s burning oil, a few quarts per 500 miles I’d guess. The truck has low 123k miles but no idea what happened to it during that time.

That’s a lot of oil… shouldn’t be that much… I’d warrant that your piston rings aren’t just super…

I'm guessing that this is the one in the close up. It looks like it might have unscrewed a little bit to me. There looks like there fuel between the two parts of the injector body. Other than that, nothing looks completely awful to me. I don't know what causes the rust, but I've seen it before.

So, anybody have anymore input? Can rust on injectors suggest a head gasket issue? Teach me the ways, I soak up new information like a rock!

UUUMMMM those look really good. the rust is from moisture coming from the top.
Did you never seez the new ones upon install?
I recommend Painting them, they wont rust on top.

Yes I used the the seezy on the threads. I was referring to one that has it on the lower part of the injector. It’s a closeup pic.
