Continued from previous page.

Engine side of things.

Harness modifications nearly complete. Rerouted wiring to the front of the engine.
It's a bit busy now, but I'll take busy over wiring failures under a turbo.
Waiting on the new fuel pressure sensor (lost in USPS limbo) to finish harness.
Real oil pressure sender installed.
Return lines installed.
A BEAUTIFUL injection pump ( @Thewespaul ) now dons some s3xy IP lines (if I do say so myself) and all installed.

Weekend update.

Front end is back on it's wheels.
Fuel filter pedestal and alternator bracket mounted.
Engine Harness finished.

Just waiting on a few parts yet before I can drop the engine back in.

Looking for recommendations on sources of body panel replacements. The fenders are in horrible shape as it turns out.
I knew the Passengers side was going to need some love, but the drivers side is rotten on the inside.
Given the prices, I'm having a hard time justifying spending any time on repairs of the existing fenders.

I just saw a new set on Craigslist for around $100 I think. Obviously getting them off a parts truck is the cheapest if you can find a clean set. Ebay sells the complete fenders as well as repair kits. I just bought 2 wheel arches and 2 bed corner panels for around $200, which ain't bad.

Try car-part.com for anything. It's a network of salvage yards that will ship to a commercial address in the delivery route for free. In my case I've had two big parts, a core support and a corolla transmission sent to my local NAPA for free. Just need permission and a name to receive the part. Best deal ever.

I'm aware of car-part, however I was very unaware of the free shipping aspect!
Thank you for the tip!

LMC truck

I got my replacement core support from them. They are sure proud of their freight shipping though. With the fenders at $99 a piece, it's hard to cough up $150 in freight.

I just saw a new set on Craigslist ... Ebay

No luck locally with the usual suspects. Hadn't thought of Ebay honestly.

what did you use for the thermal sound barrier? this build is turning out beautiful. I love all the attention to detail on the engine.

On the crossover and up-pipe casting: Form-A-Shield from DEI. It's a pain to work with, but I'm enjoying the challenge. I figured it couldn't hurt to keep the heat in the turbo and keep the heat out of the bay.
On the firewall: Floor and Tunnel shield II, also from DEI.

I love all the attention to detail on the engine.
Honestly, I've enjoyed doing it and 2020, being 2020 and all, allowed me to just take my time and do what I want, how I want.

DEI has the adhesive and non adhesive for the firewall. That looks like the adhesive, how did you like it? Do you think it will hold strong?

The Floor and Tunnel Shield II wasn't too bad to work with. I found that a set of Vinyl siding/Roofing shears worked beautifully for cutting the material. Tin snips and carpet shears just bound up on the adhesive layer. Although the product forms easily by hand, I used body and a ballpeen hammers to form it into the nooks and crannies. I spent lots of time with the backing still applied forming and trimming to get the fit about perfect prior to sticking it down.

Do you think it will hold strong?
I cleaned the area with alcohol, and man did it ever stick when applied. Reminds me of contact cement. I honestly don't think it'll go anywhere however time will tell.

I agree, that insulation looks great. The factory MLV is falling apart on mine so this might be a solution one day. Only catch is I'd have to probably remove the engine to do it properly. But even for the AC components it would be nice. Does it come with the metallic tape, or was that separately purchased?

Thanks for sharing.

Looks incredible!
Thanks, That means a lot coming from you!

I did take the opportunity to replace the evaporator while I had easy access. It honestly would have been impossible with the engine in as the bottom screws were so wasted I had to grind them out. Glad I did too. Even though the face of the evaporator was clean (had recently pulled the blower and vacuumed), it was still blocked badly enough I can barely see light through it.

The tape was not included, but was relatively inexpensive.

Weekend update (Saturday Edition)

Located a Manual Trans flywheel. Bled Injection pump lines and built oil pressure.
Gator clipped the IP to the batteries, Turned her over and she lit off nicely.

Ran it at ldle for 15 seconds to verify Oil pressure and I've identified a couple fuel leaks on the injection pump lines for, of course, 1, 2, 7 & 3.
Now need to figure out how to tighten those up without pulling the whole thing out again.

Edit: Update Update.
Isn't a good feeling when you find a tool that you forgot you even owned...
Got the lines tightened with a freshly re-discovered set of Line Crows Feet, a wobble and a 3/8" breaker bar. Huzzah!

Edit Edit:

And for those who worry about such things: I started the engine, grabbed my phone, took the video and shut it down. Total runtime less than 1 minute.
