Ok truck just starved of fuel was running on the rear tank when it happened, front tank is bone dry atleast it seems by banging on it ,wich i had left roughly 5 gallons in it because my gauge doesnt work.

now rear tank is ******* out the top of the filler neck.

I got it to start on the front one but it died right back out and then the rear leaked more almost like cranking it was pushing air or fuel into the tank.

Any ideas?? Stuck on a busy highway. Thanks ahead of time

Sounds like the selector valve is stuck and is returning fuel to the rear tank regardless of which tank is selected. Try smacking the valve but sounds like you may have to bypass the valve and run it off the rear tank.

Wes thank you again, i have no problem bypassing the selector valve i was eventually hoping to do a single tank anyways. But why is it acting like im out of fuel if its just stuck returning to the rear?i was on the rear tank when she ran out of fuel, any chance its lift pump?

If im still pulling from the rear shouldnt i be able to get fuel to the engine still.

Is there somethingthat if the tank is overfull causes it to not work

I should have been more clear, your valve is stuck returning to the rear tank and sucking from the front tank. Is it possible the wires or lines maybe hooked up wrong?

I don't think thats possible I've never touced any of them and ive had the truck 6 months or so never had one issue. Except when i ran her out of diesel once no fault to the truck.

If the selector valve is stuck it could be pulling enough air from the front due to a valve being partaly open but still drawing some fuelthat would be my guess I agree with Wes give it a small wack and flip the switch a few times if that do t work bypass it

Anyone else have any idea? Some liquid from somewhere is getting into the tank.

Can we rule out motor oil or coolant?

Looks to me like Wes has the most likely fix. Electric fuel pump? Any way of getting fuel directly to the engine via bucket and siphon?

God, I hate getting in the middle of nowhere and having my stuff break.

Siphon as much fuel as you can out of the rear tank and put it in the front tank. You may need to stop and redo this a few times but it will get you home without having to wrench on anything on the side of the highway

I finally had to bypass mine when it stuck like this. I used over 3/4 of a tank of fuel in 94 miles and I had fuel dripping out onto the ground when I got there. I didn't think about trying to tap on the selector valve, so I had to fill up and then use just as much to get back home. The next time I started the truck was during the next weekend to move it to a place where I could bypass the selector valve.

What's everyone think of the parts store replacements dor theese? Got it home ended up getting towed atleast it was only 15 miles or so. Just wondering id there is another option besides bypassing. If not then ill bypass to rear tank only or is the front bigger id prefer the bigger tank.

Try blowing compressed air through it backwards. Blow air and have someone change tank with switch. May be parts of tank pickup clogging it. There are valves on eBay for under $60. Several on here have bought them, haven’t heard any negatives yet. OEM is $250 and up.

Another update this morning before work me and my buddy went to the shop where i had the truck towed last night.

We were able to get it started by tapping on the valve and switching back and forth, and a bunch of priming of course. It ran great for about 10 mins i shut it off and started right back up,then i gotta go to work.

So my plan is after work to get 10 gallons of diesel in jugs and put it in the front tank wich is bone dry. That way i can see if i can switch from tank to tank without issue.

So ultimately my question is if it seems to work do i still replace it,was it a fluke? Id hate to get stranded again.
