zinc additive in newer Delo 400 need?

Can not find Delo 400 LE anymore, the new one has a lower zinc content. Anyone using a zinc additive? With 142,000 original, my 29 year old baby has only had Delo 400 LE and uses little to no oil between changes, (not lying). Yup, a little intense in the take care of category! thanks for your imput ahead guys! Still looking for pulse adaptor to time mine as well!

Your engine has roller lifters, so zinc content is not as critical as it is in a standard lifter engine.

losing viscosity quicker and more "blow-by" and bearing protection not as good, reading other oil sources, but none that really define. I agree with the Rotella analysis, though good oil, ran in two others (one 7.3 idi turbo, the other 6.9 na) and they would drink it. Back to Delo 400 LE and it stopped immediately. Concerned with the drink issue and if it will hold up as well with these older bearings, etc. I change all filters consistently, and understand the maintenance thing.

Still looking to rent a pulse meter that would have to be shipped here and back, but getting no replys, or I don know how to receive them. Also waiting to see if any have had good experience with the Gunson unit sold out of UK, thanks!

Just go with Mobil Delvac 15W40. It's cheap(Mail in rebate for $35 off per 5 gal), works just fine. I just drove a good thousand miles with this clapped-out 7.3 turbo motor I got from the junk yard, the one that kind of knocks and is *not* smooth*... didn't burn a noticable amount. It does leak a little, but I didn't go down even a pint in that thousand miles.

Whoever said that lowered zddp had an effect on oil life such as losing viscosity faster had no clue. Zddp is mainly to protect flat tappit cams. We have roller lifters. In an extreeme application zddp helps with rocker life too. But we don't have stiff valvesprings either.

If it turns out my engine is not a boat anchor I’ll give a big shout out to the Mobil Delvac. At 10$ a gallon it’s economical too. I’ve always had good luck with Mobil products.

Idk I’d say we have pretty stiff valve springs, compare a bbf spring to an idi and you will be amazed the difference. With the high compression these valves need a lot of seat pressure

I posted an oil issue just like this last week
Not to dispute other opinions there are other reasons for the older oil additives just like the gas we must put in older carb motors and causing problems.
Engines today are built different today and will require different oils and the older engines can just suffer.

i agree that is why iasked about missing adAdditives I do care about making this engine last and many don’t seem to care as much as I do in these engines were built under different oils specs than the new ones are, and as always newer is not always better I guess my real question is what the differences are between the old Dello 400 and the newer versions and what is missing to make it back like that motor oil
