Both id say

Heck yea! I’ve used hot shotters secret with great luck. Just as Wes says, it’ll help the idle and power. I would always fill the fuel filter halfway with it and the other half tranny fluid when I did a service. Seemed to help a lot. Anyone ever just run red dye? I don’t know if it has anything different about it other than than lack of tax but it felt as though the truck would run better on it as well. Sorry not trying to high jack! Just a thought

For years I thought it had a higher sulpher count, but I talked to someone in the petroleum industry and he said it’s exactly the same, which makes sense since it would be a lot of trouble to make a whole other batch mix for off-road diesel

One thing that might help/harm this is whether you 'work' the truck or not. I've found that hooking a big heavy load behind the truck once in a while and towing it uphill a few times(In my case, I get the opportunity to do it once in a while without 'make work') seems to help clean up carbon deposits and get things running better.

Friend of mine went to pick up an IDI Van on the car hauler about 8 hours away; came back having /nearly/ blown a head gasket on the way up(he basically floored it up a big long grade until the temp gauge nearly hit the H, then kept it there the rest of the grade)... but I'll be darned if it doesn't sound better and smoother than it ever did before.

Spray pattern wise, I personally don't care. If it seals good and holds pressure consistently, that's fine. The "pintle-less" Stage 1 nozzles don't spray well, but seem to run just fine. As long as you've got the air for it, they are nice(the Stage 1s are just modified R&D Chinese nozzles)

Good point. These engines really need to be worked and to get hot, IDIs that putt around and never get up to operating temp have problems like this:
You must be registered for see images attach

I find it interesting that the engineers decided to block off multiple coolant passages on the 7.3 to keep more heat around the cylinders instead of putting a higher temp thermostat in.

The shop truck gets worked pretty hard, it pulls a good sized trailer at least once a week, as I pull an 18 ft trailer up to the church we go to every Saturday, because I volunteer up there to take care of their landscaping and event fields. It’s not hooked up to a trailer every day, but it’s the truck I take to pick up engines from the machine shop, and to drive out to pick up more cores, not to mention drag racing the truck on the weekends.

I don’t think carbon buildup was the cause of the issues with the injectors, they were real clean when I pulled them out, and since they have been pulled out and reinstalled a few times over the 75k miles, they have always had new washers under them
