If you cant tell this is the passenger radiator support/cross member under the battery. So body rust isn't my thing...what are my options here? I'm not in a shop where I can just cut up vehicles all day. This is essentially inaccessible to me... I'm hoping there is a spray or something because even if I could take the time to wire wheel everything back to bare metal I would never be able to get behind the overlaps to stop the rust. The body mount is not long for this world it seems.
I am this far into to putting on a new passenger front side panel as I got side swiped years ago and through the miracle of auto insurance(Geico, those ********) they just sat around doing nothing for 2 months waiting for me to take the settlement.
And I haven't prioritized the fix till now. Little did I know how mashed up it got down there.
Edit: 89 7.3L 4x4 F250

Looks like a bricknose core support? I would replace it if it were me, I’ve got a couple spares here but I won’t ship.

Wow, you are in Washington and have rust like that? I thought it was just us "salt belt" guys that had stuff like that on our trucks. I believe there are aftermarket core supports just recently being offered for our trucks, but may only be available for OBS 92-97 trucks. I would be looking in the yards up your way for a good used one. I always see rust free trucks in the internet that are from WA and OR - surely there must be some good parts in the yards up there?

Sorry it's an 89 7.3L F250 4x4, I really need to make a signature.

Yeah this rig was purchased over the mountains in Eastern WA 10 years ago, and they have much stronger temp swings and do salt the roads in winter more than over here.

Anybody parting out a pickup in western WA?

I know of one good dedicated pickup yard. Used to have a few IDIs but not the last time I went early this year, so the core support will be different on the gassers, right?

I looked at the aftermarket Ebay ones too and they are 92-96 or the like. And $600!!!

Yup, the gasser core supports are different - the bottom "hoop" does not come down as far as the diesel core supports. There was a company offering a "repair kit" for the diesel core supports. Basically, they provided the parts for a new lower "hoop" to be welded in. As I recall, that repair kit was several hundred dollars, and I am not sure they even offer that kit anymore.

It may not work, but LMC truck lists one for your 89 for $189.95. It says it's for "no A/C" so it may be for the short, wide radiator.

Thanks for the tip! It's so strange, I went to the site and searched it, found only the 92+ supports. I was about to reply that i couldn't find them when I thought "maybe the catalog is more in depth than the online search..." turns out that was the ticket. It even has dimensions I can measure out in the morning to verify its fitment. If I can't find one locally I'll have to go that way. Ends up being like $230 after shipping. Not bad at all really, for a new part. I wonder how much it weighs compared to OEM...

Try this link.. I did a quick search and it showed quite a few starting at $75. It's a nation wide search of scrap yards that are registered with them. Used it a few times for some cheap alternatives to new.

Hey brother, thanks for that link. I ended up actually finding one through that site about 60miles away but for only $87 total they would pull it too. And then they suggested I talk to my local parts house to have them drive it out for $15 extra instead of $130 ground shipping...NAPA said yes and my core support will be here Tuesday or Wednesday and I'll only have to drive 8 mins to get it!

You're a life saver, thank you so much!! This is really a pain of a chore but doing it right will be very good in the end.

Awesome deal. For comparison I paid $350 and drove 1 hour to pick up mine.
