Tire options 2018

Okay so as the title indicates looking for current tire options.

I realize this a tediuos question and rather newbie in context but I've been out of the loop. Last new truck tires I bought were in 2011.

So currently I'm running the Nitto Terra Grappler in 315-75/16. They've been on the truck since August of 2007. They've got about 40k on them. 30K the first year and 10k the last 10 years as a farm truck.

I'm not disappointed with the Terra Grapplers and could do that again but was curious about what else ya'll might have experience with.

My use is going to be primarily on road but I'd like to have decent grip off road when I need it.

Any better tires out there from a price/performance perspective?

And if this topic makes you roll your eyes and think "not again, stoopid newbs" please feel free to let me know.

I'll bite. I don't know how they compare price wise and I don't have them on a pickup, but I've been running Hankook ATM RF-10 tires on my '99 Cherokee for about 8 years. I'm on my second set and the off road performance is quite good for a AT tire, I've never been stuck and I've done some pretty intense shite but then again, I've got front and rear lockers. The on road performance is,for a AT tire, very good. The high speed wet road handing is stellar.

I got copper MTP tires 315/75/16 they are a mud terrain but work good in snow ice and mud and they are quite on the highway I think for being a mud terrain. These tires are only sold at discount tire though but I got 4 of them for only 950 shipped to my door.

The new redesigned bfg a/t must have a softer tread. 30k miles and they need replaced. I won’t buy them again. Looking at general tires new atx for my next set

I like the Toyo open country ats, but they are pricey. 50k on them and still a decent amount of tread left.

Hear great reviews about hankook dynapro good on/off road and decent snow and ice. Decent price for stock size but not sure about 315's.

Have a buddy with Yokohama geolanders on his Jeep and he loves them. Never looked into them for big trucks.

Had a set of general a/t's put on one of our brush rigs at the fire station, great off road decent on road but never had them out on snow and ice. Same tread as the BFG a/t's but way better price, but again that was stock size not 315's.

I have the Hercules terra track AT II in 315/70/17. So far they don't seem bad. Been in some spots where other trucks would require locking in 4x4. Lol
Just remember, way bigger tire can impact economy and acceleration.
Have had cooper discoverer AT3's in the past. They were great as well.

Heard awesome reviews so I bought a set of 235/85r16 but at 80psi they felt like they had 20psi. Side walls were so soft I felt unsafe, they got returned in less than 500 miles

Thanks for the replies and info.
I've got time to decide/look for a deal so it's nice to have your input.

Especially good to hear about the BFG's lack of durability. I've always liked that tire but it appears the KO2 version is not as good as the original. Sad.

Another question open for opinions.
After looking around I may decide to go to a 17" wheel as it opens up more tire options. Anyone familiar with the Pirelli Scorpion line?

All I can really recommend is you do lots of research on the ones you find and find what's comfortable for you. I didn't like the idea of leaser known brands but after looking at reviews and comments I have really opened up about them.

Thats really odd to hear about the toyos, ive got three sets on three trucks and have no issues at all, what size tire on what size wheel did you have?

Yeah the price I saw today on the Scorpions was in line with the Nittos, General, Yokohama's. 50k warranty too. Good to hear they're not disliked by the people running them.

Downside is I didn't see any 16's. Only 17 and larger. But it's that way with alot of the newer tires.

Yeah 16's are becoming like 14/15" car tires soon you won't hardly see them anywhere. My explorer has 18's on it.. I think my daughter's old car even had 16's, it was a little compact car..
