So this weekend I am putting a powerstroke in a brick nose and as a trade I get the entire rest of the pickup the powerstroke came out of and the 7.3 idi out of the brick nose. I plan on removing the cab and bed, installing the idi to the zf5 in the frame and then putting my 1995 suburban body on the f250 frame. Being a manual tranny and a mechanical diesel I think the wiring will be a cake walk short of maybe figuring out the speedometer. I will start this project in a couple weeks when I'm done with the powerstroke so if anybody has any advice or has done something like this before please chime in but please don't say to just put a 6.2 or a 6.5 in my burb. I will be taking lots of pics.

Turbo it!
You'll probably end up with the snappiest suburban around.

I am planning on it eventually but I'm trying to do this on the cheap so I will probably run it na until I come across a good deal on one.

Gpt 38 or the 66 from the obs.

This is going to be a cool project. I’ve been wanting to do a suburban up with a 5.9 (6bt or the dt360)...

Isnt the gpt38 off of a 7.3 powerstroke? How are you making it fit?

For a 'mild', simple setup: Find a Banks Sidewinder kit. Crank the stock IP to max, unhook the wastegate on the turbo.
This will net you around 15 PSI of boost, around 220RWHP(280-300 crank); about twice the stock power to the ground. It's a simple, proven setup that basically uses everything the pump and turbo can handle.
If you replace fuel components for this setup, I'd go with a RD2-90 IP and Stage1 injectors from R&D. My '92 seems to really like those injectors with the Sidewinder.

If you have issues with smoke at low RPMs due to being really heavy with your right foot, install a Hypermax Smoke Puff Limiter on ths IP. This allows you to limit fuel(smoke) until boost comes up.

Take lots of underhood pics of this swap. I've been considering a similar swap for a while. I'm excited now lol.

Got the engine out of the 88. Now I just have to pull the powerstroke out so I can drop it in the frame.

I would NEVER recommend that! You want the reliability and durability of a 6.9/7.3. That's why you're going to do this swap. It will be the stoutest Suburban out there on the road!

Well I got the idi dropped in the frame. Although that's mostly just for storage until I finish the powerstroke project. I plan to pressure wash and paint the engine and probably sand blast the frame and paint it with the rust proof m/d paint before I drop my burb on it.

Just curious, are you pulling a trailer with this set up and if so what are your egts running. Also what kind of mpgs are you getting empty with this set up?
