Cant seem to find a 2wd truck within 300 miles that isnt a rag but i keep finding duallies. Im Having trouble searching this, how much trouble would it be to convert a 2wd dually to a 2wd single wheel truck? I'm not above cutting and re welding the perches on a single wheel axel to fit the dually frame width.

what about the front hubs? Can I replace them with normal hubs?

Can I just remove the rear fender flares and a Normal bed be under them or replace the bed?

There has to be 6 reasonable priced dually IDI's around me but I'm after mileage and don't need those extra wheels turnin.

Thanks,
Frank

If it's a pickup and not a cab and chassis, I think the spring perches will be right. The overall width may be wider.

as long as they arent cab/chassis trucks it will be a direct swap and they all run the same spindle so all you would need is hubs and for the bed even if the bedsides arent hacked up from the flares you would have to at least pant the bed then the cab cause nothing would match if you are looking for mileage and weight find a cheap flatbed. some of the lesser qualityones i have had are lighter than stock beds

I have a flat bed that needs a little bit of work to make nice, I suppose that would be a good place for it. How far in would stock wheels set on a drw rear end? On second thought I have a dually and single rear laying around with wheels on that I could measure up....

Not really wanting to spend tons on it. Just didn't think it would be this hard to find a srw 2 wheel drive 5 speed idi. There are a couple dually ones near me

or you could do a single axle swap with superduty leaf springs and a shackle flip to move the axle forward a bit so you can run a short bed!!!. drulling over a crew cab short bed

Buy the dually, spend some time with it, I doubt that two more tyres will negate mileage much if driven properly.

Sell dually or trade it later on for whatcha want if you want to, or gather parts and swap when ya can.

I can currently get 15mpg out of my 86. To buy a dually and only get 16-18 doesnt make sense when i could get 17-20 with a single wheel.
As for parts gathering id have everything except for the front hubs.

Honestly id rather just buy one at this point. Too many irons in the fire right now

I would just single out the rears. (With srw wheels of course)
Then swap the front stuff.

Btw, are you looking for a crew cab or just a regular?

Regular or extended cab. Going to look at a 85 RCLB 2wd tomorrow. Just sold my CCLB and don't really want another anytime soon!
