Can anyone post pics of the Ford brake spring tool they have. I'm interested in the snapon tool but any tool you have thats designed for the ford springs will do.. Thanks...
that works on a half ton but not so much on a sterling. Its a bit more of a pita.I just hold the back of the pin to the backing plate and push in on the washer/lock deal and twist, it's only a little spring. Then for the big spring's I just use a pair of needle nose vice grip's on them and pull on them.
here's what's left of my snap-on tool.....This is what I was thinking about..

Here is the same tool but a little cheaper...

I just entered snapon brake spring tool in the ebay search and came up with plenty of tools for brakes.
I had a cheap shoe retaining tool that had three sides to it. The part that was used to hold the spring cups was a plastic piece. I just broke it but wraped it with wire to get thru the chevy brake job... Bought another nicer all metal tool that sucks. It wont hold the cups when you try to attach the springs to the pin.. Crazy mess... Well I wont ever be doing another brake job on that truck. Its done now and to be sold... Really hate selling the chevy because its been a great "spare truck"... Like all my other spare stuff thats finding new homes...

the handle is nice but it's really designed for full float axles with removed hubs. our sterling hubs get in the way.
not so after my very expensive mod job and a closed end 10mm wrench. brake jobs get doen hella fast with this modded tool.![]()
bending it is easy. but it's heat treated or hardened. I found out the hard way. the reason why it's now a stub is because when I attempted to "bend" the handle out of the way in a vise, the shaft snapped in two.Um if not too much to ask Calvin, can you get a basic drawing/measurements out so we can make it? It must be round stock what size? bend etc...just asking...
Pleeease?
