95 psd upper end knock

my truck has 127000 on it & well cared for, oil changed every 3000, just replace Valve cover wireing harness (both Banks) new heater in fuel filter houseing & 8 new glow plugs, While I was @ it put a edge programer on it, 3in off the turbo with MBRP 4 inch exhaust. drove it about 1000 miles & now notice alot of blue smoke when I start in the mornings & notice a upper end to mid knock on the pass side toward the rear of the motor @ certain RPMs. Its disturbing in the cab & sounds almost like lifters on a gas rig. seems to run strong, starts fine & Tack holds stead RPM. would a weak or missing injector cause this aknowing knock?

Ok just got it back from the shop, he said he thinks it a wrist pin, buss tested the injectors all r good.....also he noticed lot of blow by.......wants 13500 to install a ford reman.. with 2 year warranty My cost @ ford was 7860..complete W/ head turbo..ect

A wrist pin at 127,000 would be highly unusual. At 5000, ok...bad factory installation. At 500,000...ok,it finally wore out.

Blowby? Did he take a compression test?

127,000 miles. That engine isn't even broke in yet.

Buzz test will not reveal a bad injector, only if the coil is bad.

Continuity test will possibly reveal a bad injector.

What scanner did he use to make the checks? It has to be Ford truck compatable.

Check the UVCH harnesses on both sides, could be one is coming unplugged, or the harness to them on top of the engine has chaffed (common problem) a wire shorting out. Might find burn't pin(s) if the pluggin is loose under the valve cover.

yes and no. there was a guy, that had over 780,000 on his,,and was still running fine. he hauled boats all across the usa,,was from washington state..

My point was, wrist pins don't fail at 130000 miles. If the upper end is 500k, 750k or a million is irrelevant.

Thanks guys, i've been depressed as even @ 7800 for a reman & me putting it in I thought how could this be I change oil every 3000, I do pull with it but that just makes it run better till latey. This mechanic worked @ Ford & now has his own shop he just replaced the valve cover gaskets wireharnes 8 new glow plugs Glow plug relay,& Ipr......500 miles & started this Knocking sound & seems to run strong. I thought broken damper spring in clutch..no peices in the inspection plate. I took it back to him & he said the wrist pins are going & need a new motor. Anyone know a Good Mechanic in Portland Oregon area??

money is tight for everybody, even shops..... but that is no excuse for an intentional miss diagnosis and over charging for an engine swap that is most likely not needed.

The shop up the road that I use quoted me $1200 labor to R&R my engine (just for the labor)....... look around there are several good shops in the Portland area.....

I would be looking at the UVCH you just had installed and looking for the use of butt connectors .......

Ok Thanks guys,,well now have 130000 on it still runin fine lots of power but noise is bugging me,,I pin pointed the noise to #5 cylinder, I pulled the valve cover found #5 cylinder with a bent push rod (exhaust) I thought it was just the enjector. but noticed that (push-rod) was rubbing on the casting on the head., it was bent so bad it couldnt even roll on a flat table. Pulled the enjector it was fine & had the cylinder scoped, we found a dent on the piston near the center cup 1/4 long right below the exhaust valve ( like a possible glow plug end) with no debrie in the cylinder bore. So with a bent push rod mark on the piston, now exhaust valve most likely bent..the head has to come off. I contacted the mechanic ( powerstroke specialest, Long truck repair) here in oregon..claims no responibly even tho he's the only mechiaic that touched the engine since it was new. He's the one said wore wrist pins & needs a new motor.& just replaced all glow plugs... this engine has oil/filter change every 3000.. so if the cylinder is scored..I'm thinkin of repowering it to a 12 valve cummings.....I'm thinkin about legal action on Long truck repair as he wouldnt even talk to me about it, even tho he has a 2 year warranty on his work.....what a fake, low life shop ASE wasnt worth the 120 hr labor that gonna cost me min.3000 to 8000 on a 7500 truck

I don't quite understand what your saying about a push rod mark on the piston. That mark is more than likely from the end of a glow plug that broke off when the mechanic (if you want to call him that) changed the plugs. That exhaust valve closes milli seconds before the piston reaches TDC, at that point the piece could have got in the right place under the valve and in turn bent the push rod. Pulling the head is gonna tell what needs to be done, prolly just replace the rod, being as they are hydraulic lifters, prolly didn't hurt the valve. The problem is if you take him to court, the proof lies on your shoulders that he caused it. Judges don't understand a diesel, and they kind of dislike them. Ya better have a damn good lawyer that understands diesel's and can explane them. It's highly likely your gonna lose. I went to court for a friend over a diesel, and it turned out to be a fiasco. It's hard to take your lumps but I'd just pull the head survey the damage, ***** the cost, replace the head or fix it. Call Promar, and see what a whole head would cost if needed. The guy I went to court for, had a one year warranty, didn't mean crapolla.
