Now you guys have me thinking/worried. I will have to give the pan a once-over next oil change, which is coming up. I know there is a bit of oil on the pan, but that is not enough to keep it from rusting. Would rather prevent now, instead of fix later. I think my pan is trapped also... they love that huge cross member!!!!
I think one thing on the salt that is worse here is, the state loves that spray on liquid, calcium chloride / molasses stuff that they use everywhere, even as a "preventer". I have seen the brine sprayed on bridges when there is a chance of frost. So we can have that stuff down as early as September, and as late as April..... then when the snow flies.... they take the big salt shakers out and add more "rock salt" to what is already there. i remember one winter, several years ago, I had a Ford conversion van. On the bottom of front doors, the company name, Rockwood, was painted into the striping. We had a week + of snow and crap, and they put down massive amounts of salt since it was cloudy and stayed below freezing. The layer of muck from the paved streets was so think, you could not read the name on the bottom of the doors.... you really couldn't tell what color the van was until you got up to the mirrors.
