Well today it's smelling like spring out and am itchin to get the Gold one back on the ground.

I decided it is high time too get those pesky fusible links out of the glow plug system and go to a more stable power source.
Yup, gots me a mega fuse and retainer assembly today.
Dang they aint kidding when they say mega!

So I plan on removing the 2 fusible lings and wire all the way up to the GPC and start fresh with some 4 gauge wire and tap into the the black wire off the solenoid. MOunt the retainer next to the solenoid and call it good.

I'm tired of replacing fusible links and now is the time!

Ooops, parts numbers

Fuse retainer NAPA 782-1143
Mega Fuse Napa 782-1142

Made in the USA!

Pics to follow.

That should do the trick. How come you've had so much trouble with fusable links?

Well PO made half hacked repair first go 'round and bypassed the main engine harness but didn't use proper connectors and one failed causing the second link to become overtaxed and cooked it.

I replaced the links and connectors on my infamous Drummond Island trek a few years ago. Worked good, till a month ago when I went to give Goldie her monthly fire up.

This time it burned the actual connector that the links attach to by the solenoid. Links are still good. Connector failed this time.

Sooo, this is the cure-all.

Use 4 ga speaker wire found at any sterio installation shop. Its got lots of tint copper strands in it and much easier to work with. Its very flexiable...

Thank You Ron, I will do this on mine, not for the gp's of course but the alt uses this same thing so I'll use it there.

I used to do lots of custom stereo installs, use 4ga welder/welding (depending where you get it) wire

exact same wire, but with a generic black casing, about 1.39/ft up here, as opposed to $5+ per foot for the stuff at the stereo shops

unless you just want the pretty casing
