I've had a couple of IDIs over the years, haven't had a truck for a while and wanted one again, so I picked this one up yesterday. 1991 F-250 with a 7.3 IDI. Well technically it runs, but it needs some TLC. Missing on one cylinder due to a cross threaded injector line leaking like a sieve, leaking trans lines, etc. Pretty basic stuff for these old trucks. I'll probably make a build thread once I get into the guts of the project.

Pretty sure I've been on this forum before but it's probably been a decade or more and I don't remember my old username or email on here so new account it is

Right on welcome back. How do you handle the cross threaded injector - just clean up the threads with a tap or..?

I know some have had luck using a tap to clean up the threads on the injector and then replace the line, but I'm fairly sure there's metal shavings in the injector and the threads are pretty pooched. I'm just going to replace all of the injectors and lines since they aren't terribly expensive. It has some hazing in the exhaust that I'd normally attribute to worn injectors so its a good excuse. Just waiting for R&D to have stock again. Probably ought to do the pump at the same time since I have little knowledge of the trucks history.

But prior to all that I'm going to pull the glowplugs since they need replaced, do a compression test before I drop a lot of time into it, and then fingers crossed I get lucky and don't break any plugs. Worst case I break a glowplug and have to pull the head and might as well get that over with before I spend a lot of time above the heads.
