Had a friend who purchased 1985 f250 wrecked for the bed and axle.
6.9 with C6 4x2 coming my way and are in good shape. Radiator core may be salvageable/repairable.
Thinking of finding a nearby OBS to purchase... and found a 96 f250 gas with blown engine. It's a 4x4 so that greatly complicates things, I know, but got me thinking.
Opinions on the following:
1985 6.9 with a zf5 will work with any years up to 97? Just make sure the zf is 4x4 if it's going into a 4x4 truck?
1985 6.9 with original c6 can go into any 4x2 up to 1994 powerstroke because it's not ECM reliant, right?
1985 6.9 with original c6 ... what route would any of you with experience take? Keep together, divide, other thoughts?
thanks in advance...

6.9 & ZF5 (diesel specific pattern) is viable. Factory pairing in '87.

It may take some work to satisfy all the '96 dash electrics. A 92-94 IDI PCM and/or harness might help smooth that over.

Federal diesel emissions cover 96?
IIRC 7.3 PSD is emissions exempt, so all the way up to 2003.

You can drop in the 6.9 into any chassis up to 1995, after that they may get a little picky due to no MIL check light at key on. But what's a little timer circuit have to do with this? I dunno... ;)

Id think it's either get a harness or Jerry rig everything.

I'm in NW Florida and have an entire wiring harness out of an 85, I know that's not a 92-96, but if it could help I'll part with it. It's the dash up to the head lights.

Well, I tell you..... there's a member on here that's really "chill" and lives in New York State..... and his statement about Florida is this...... and I quote (he won't mind) "I wouldn't live in Florida, there's too many New Yorkers there".....and he's right! Everyone wants to live in my wonderful cheap poor NW Florida, but they want to bring their culture and their prius' and Tesla's........ and they ..... I'll stop.....I'll be a good boy........

We now return you to your regular scheduled thread......fuzzzzy sounds......, uhhh yeah, the IDI wiring is really easy, the OBS part might be a nightmare...... especially if you want AC.......

@Clb That depends, if it was a 460 truck then it can be modified to work on the diesel.

If it was a small block truck then it's not gonna work!
