Took it for a spin on the NA pump. Drove nice. One of the things I like about IDIs is they start right up under any condition really except air instrusion. I threw the pump on it was at like 23 degrees of timing at 2000 according to the meter and still ran fine. Got it in the ~7.5.

My old nemesis the infinite coolant temp creep appears to not be resolved, I’ll re-open that book now. It has a new water pump, thermostat, coolant, vacuum fill so should be no air. Kinda gotta be air it seems.

The only other thing was I put an oil cooler on it that had oily coolant in it so the coolant is a little oily. Maybe? Don’t really think so but open to it. It’s above freezing now in the northeast so I’m thinking of a couple cycles of dish soap and garden hose can be in order if I don’t solve it.

Today I’m going to work on running the CB antenna, and putting the interior together. Letting the truck run until it reaches 235 degrees or we get results. Let’s see what happens.

I sure hope you get the temp issue figured out!

Where are you mounting the CB?

Looks like someone slipped some cool-aid into your coolant system... LOL

I hope you get that coolant issue figured out. It's quite the head-scratcher.

Okay, thought I had sense of this for a minute but now less sense.

Idled the truck for 3+ hours
Hour 1 - 195
Hour 2 - 203
Hour 3 - 202/203
Hour 3.5 - 202/203

Test drive - 222, currently pulled over letting it cool down

for background, this is my first turbo intercooled IDI build, usually they always run cool not hot.

Could the intercooler blocking the radiator be making this much of a difference? There’s trucks in Texas and Cali running intercooler I can’t see that

I don’t have the fan shroud on, wouldn’t think it would make this drastic of a difference but it’s what I’m going to try next.

EGTs are good - 300/400

I have a suspect -
When I did the engine I put a brand new fan clutch on, it was on my shelf for years not sure the brand. It was good tight feeling. I brought the truck up to 239 degrees shut it and I can turn the fan clutch pretty easily with one finger. It doesn’t “spin” but it doesn’t feel great.
