Got it. When I lived in Michigan, I never got any black smoke even at full throttle, out here at 5280 ft elevation there is considerably less oxygen in the air and I get black smoke super easy. I may not even have to adjust to add extra fuel? Example below...

turbo's help tremendously with high elevation thin air. Hypermax made a van body turbo kit I think they might still but they are spendy. R&D has done a couple van body turbos as well. A 7.3 idi will safely handle 14psi of boost pressure from the turbo without head studs that's a huge kick in the ass for more power especially if you crank the fuel up too. A pyrometer is a must as well it measures exhaust gas temperature which is basically monitoring piston temperature because pistons are aluminum that melts around 1250 degrees F. I put a turbo A boost gauge and a pyrometer on my 7.3 pickup and I can watch the gauges play it safe and really woke her up

Great looking truck. Are those factory rims? If so do you know what they're called? I've seen them on maybe a handful of trucks.

A lot of visual change in a year! Can't wait to get a welder and replace the cab corners and driver side rocker panel then repaint it but for now I'm happy

I think I saw your post on Facebook. That thing looks downright mean now! I love it! What are you running for tires? Size and brand. They look a lot like the old Cooper STT I was running on my Chevy years ago.

Thanks! Looking back I find it hard to believe she's the same truck lol.
As for the tires they are Yokohama geolander g003 MT'S. They have no road noise like some MT's and I've driven through creeks, up mud hills with no issues and handles rain and what little snow we got great! 285/75/r16 for the size

I built this truck from multiple trucks. Started out as my first diesel in 2014 it was a 83 6.9 T19 3.54 gears dana 60 rear. Now its sporting a 7.3 with studs, a rajay turbo kit, zf5, dana 70 rear and 4.10 gears, I put a body on off a 84 F250 460 2wd from colorado. Everything was resealed and anything worn was rebuilt.

This is the same turbo kit mine started out as. Over the years I changed to a Holset H 1 C with a 56 mm billet wheel and modified housing, with a 16 cm hot side. Added a custom inter-cooler I designed to fit without to much material removal. I spun the bonnet to the other side. More air volume and cooler by 1/2 at the same pressure of 8 psi on a very hard pull. 140/out 75/in. You don'

I get upto 15 psi and my tubo is going to Russ he's going to work his magic on it. I would like a s257 or a s366 but I just don't know how to make it fit with the master cylinder so close the rajay turbo uses a centered inlet flange a typical turbo has the flange offset like a snail. But my stock rajay rotomaster does pretty well

When I had the rayjay in service my boost pressure was also higher. Up to 11 psi on a hard pull. Because they are smaller on both sides. Going to a modified Holset did drop the boost pressure, but increased the volume of air available to the bonnet considerably. The smaller hot side spools it up a bit quicker, but the larger compressor side moves so much more air, I had to max my pump out. I'm happy with 8-9 psi. Temps are goods on a hard pull with loaded trailers, and this engine is extremely happy at 2200 RPM. Real close to where max torque was designed.

I also had to move the master cylinder to clear the valve cover. I looked at what Ford did to vans MC of the same vintage as my truck, and modified mine accordingly by half. 45 degrees instead of 90 degrees. Also used a master cylinder with the ports on the opposite side as stock. When my truck was built. Ford did not offer power brakes, power steering, or automatic transmissions in these models. It has had all of that for nearly 30 years now, as I did this install with the original rayjay in 1992. I made an adapter plate for the manifold to fit the Holset, and a heat shield to protect the master cylinder/ booster from the down pipe.
