Thanks for all the good information everyone. Im starting to remove the motor and tranny that is in the truck. Ill post pictures in this as i move along. I forgot about classic diesel and Russ. Ive been a long time lurker on here. Never had too many reasons to post until now. It’ll be a fun project. It’s a busy time of year for me right now with my little landscaping business but I’m going to be trying to make as much time as i can for the truck. Usually i use it a lot for work. It’s kind of like missing a family member having the truck down.
To the guy who said 24v Cummins, i would stick with a 90s, preferably a 97 because i like to make my own fuel from the waste oil and stuff. Ive got a lot into my centrifuge setup and i would hate to have to get rid of it all. Plus, with how much driving i do, the bio fuel thing saves me a ton of money.
I do have quite a learning curve to overcome. As far as turbos and things like that I’m fairly new. Ive worked on my gas vehicles and equipment for years. Naturally aspirated tractors and other diesel equip. Ive only really done maintenance on turbo diesels. It’ll be a fun project. Because of my lack of knowledge on diesels ill be asking a lot of questions when it comes to the rebuilding. I would like to wake the motor up as much as i can while still having the reliability. Any info on turbos and turbo setups and things like that would be appreciated.
Would a person be able to get the turbo from R&D and also their stock drop in air intake? Not the turbo kit with the plenum and modified manifold but just the regular intake. Seems to me since they say “ stock drop in turbo” and “stock drop in intake” you would be able to use them both. But, I don’t know much of anything about this kind of stuff. Actually, I couldn’t really see me spending a bunch on an intake if i could just throw one together. I guess what i want to know is, how “worth it” is the modified plenum/ manifold vs just getting their “factory drop in replacement” and throwing some pipe on it? I know the crushed down pipe is bad.
Thanks fellas, have a good one.
