I bought this 95 powerstroke for parts because it's got a broken crank otherwise it's a nice looking truck 300000 mi automatic transmission never even got to talk to the owner just wondering why the crank broke at 300,000 miles

First time I've heard of a broken crank on a 7.3

First thing that comes to mind is too much tuning

I don't have the experience that you obviously do but I have never heard of one either I have not pulled the pan the garage I got the truck from pulled the tranny and determined that it was a broken crank .
It was suggested that possibly a bad harmonic balancer.
I have heard of that being a problem on big trucks.

I’ve seen one fail, but it broke the counterweight off. It was making over 700hp and spinning a lot of rpms.

Okay you guys want to see a 7.3 hit 3,000 RPMs with a broken crank? I'll admit it does sound a little rough but please you tell me.

Hope you do better loading those videos than I do what no fun took a long time.
I think the point is it's not a broken crank it is a bad misfire for whatever reason.
I never have had a crank break but it looks to me like first thing you probably would have bent pushrods and never be able to get it started.

Dount it's a broken crank. I thought you literally had the engine apart with a snapped crank.
Pull the flywheel inspection cover and look at the flywheel. Real common for one to break around the bolt flange.

This is an automatic and the tranny is out.
Guess I don't understand if that flange was broken how would it crank I will take another look.

Yes 79jasper I was getting a little bit sarcastic I could have led you astray.
I have just really been confused as to why this garage that sold me the truck seem to really believe it had a broken crank.
I am now convinced after running it without the transmission hitting 3000 RPM several times that it's not broken crank.
It does have some hard start issues.
So the transmissions laying in the bed of the truck I guess I'm going to gird up and try to stick that thing back in there this is just too good a truck part out, I mean even the AC works on it what can I say. If it comes apart I'll get you some good pictures.
My thanks to all of you for chiming in you're a great bunch

I actually had this happen on my 94 idi, my fly wheel broke around the bolts to where i thought i had busted my crank, i had taken a pry bar and tried to rotate the fly wheel and watched it move over an inch so i thought my motor was toast at 255k ,now i couldn't see it while transmission was in but i had the grinding sound/knocking off and on before it jammed on the starter and stalled my truck. At this point i had decided to part the truck since i wanted a 4x4 and this truck was rusted out pretty bad.
