My truck has been running great since I fixed all of the bugs, until 2 days ago. Now when you start the truck it blows lots of white smoke even after warm up and there is a ticking/clicking sound. My thought is hopefully bad/clogged injectors. What are your opinions? I love the truck and would hate to get rid of it

It's injectors or IP. Retarded timing on at least one cylinder(bad injector) or on all(stuck cam ring in IP).

I'd say the same thing. I would suggest not running it too much until the problem is resolved.

Thank you both, any Idea on what it costs to get on of these timed? It is a 7.3 NA. I have another engine with a good pump that I can take off

My feeling is that since it started all of a sudden the timing would be the least of the possibilities. It might be hard to get the timing checked. It takes a special meter which most shops do not possess. There is a list on the forum somewhere of those with meters who are willing to time your truck.
The tapping which is occurring would make me think of an injector first. To check injectors you can loosen each injector line one at a time. If the noise goes away when a particular injector line is loosened that is the injector or cylinder causing the problem.

I would suggest that it is difficult to find a competent mechanic to work on these. Most shops have probably gotten rid of their 'old' timing stuff.

I recommend building yourself a pop-tester (or buy one). A nice place to start with your truck is to check all the injectors.

Timing is more difficult due to equipment availability. It would also be easier for you to find a member here who can help. I think we have a "timing registry" thread?

Edit: Found it! https://www.oilburners.net/threads/timing-service-registry.70126/

Looks like a member mooseracing (in MI) is registered.

It’s injectors or a stuck advance piston. If you push the arm on the driver’s side of the pump inwards you should hear an audible tone in the engine change. IF it doesn’t, then your advance piston is stuck. Pretty common on these pumps. If it does change, you need a set of injectors, I would first try a heavy dose of hot shot diesel extreme and see if it cleans up the issues. Being that it started all of a sudden, it’s not a mechanical timing issue, probably a fuel contamination issue.

Any recommendations on getting the advance piston free? I checked what you stated above and no change in idle

Hot shot extreme, and give it a lot of sustained rpm. It needs transfer pressure to build up to unstick, but usually they need a rebuild at that point.

Hot shot in the tank or in the filter? I've never used it before but I have heard of things like ATF in the filter so I'm not sure if it works the same way

IIRC, the bottle says 8oz/20 gallons of fuel every 6000 miles. That's assuming that your engine is running fine. Maybe you'll want to double the dosage. 16 oz. in a full tank or 8oz. in a half tank. That's just a suggestion.

Im going to add the Hot Shot Extreme today and run it for a while to see if there is a change. If not I may have to swap the pump and/or engine I am assuming

You might want to put about a quarter filter's worth into the filter first. These trucks run for a surprisingly long time on a surprisingly small amount of fuel through the lines.

If you just put it in the tank, it could be 20 minutes before it finally hits the IP.

Thank you all for the help so far. The Hot Shot helped with a lot of the smoke but there is still some and the clicking/tapping is still there. Here is a video after the Hot Shot. Hot shot was ran and driven for about 30-40 minutes off and on.
