Im having problems with both turn signals. When acivated (either side) bulb stays illuminated but doesnt flash. Light on dash bezel also stays on. However, my emergency lights do flash. I checked the fuse and its good. Any ideas?

1993 Idi 7.3

P.s. i already checked the blinker fluid and filter. Might needa change it to synthetic.. lol

Sounds like a bad turn signal relay. The hazards I think are on their own relay.

There are 2 flashers. One for turn signals and another for emergency flashers

Not sure about a 93 but on my 91 the signal flasher is on the fuse panel and the hazard flasher is behind the glove box.

Cheapest place to start is replacing the signal flasher, it's less than $10 at the parts store and changes as easy as a fuse.

LEDs or regular bulbs?

I really recommend an electronic flasher replacement; I think I bought mine at Napa? Autozone might have the same unit.
Nice, positive timing(no short or long flashing), loud enough to hear it working(so you know when you accidentally canceled the turn signal, or left it on).
I upgrade all my flashers using one of these.

Its regular bulbs. I want to convert to LED. Im gonna switch out the flasher in a few. Is it the round lookin "plug" in the fuse box?

The flasher should be a round plastic piece. If you wanted to, you could swap the hazard flasher with the turnsignal flasher and see if the problem moves.

The factory flasher works on heat, and the heat is generated by the bulb load. This is good because if it quits flashing like yours is doing(usually only on one side) that is a indicator to you that you have a bulb blown out. But this is bad if you want to add trailer lights to the regular lighting in the rear, the increased bulb load will cause the flasher to flash rapidly. If you want to use LED's, they do not have enough load so the flasher will not flash at all.

So you can go buy a heavy duty flasher which does not use bulb load to flash, or a electronic flasher which also does not use bulb load to flash. Be warned if you go to LED's they can cause strange problems. Stray voltages from the RABS and the cruise which are tied onto the brake circuit can cause the taillights to have a faint glow all the time. Load resistors can be added to get rid of any problems you might have with LED bulbs.

The rabs on these trucks doesn't work anyways. Lol
And just a note, not all are plastic. Some are round metal. Maybe aluminum.

So on the 96, has led turn signals all around. Load resistors at the rear turn signals.
Factory flasher flashes, just extremely slow. Also sometimes not at all. Like maybe until the glowplugs turn off.
I tried the middle flasher in the above pic. Did nothing. Lol it advertises working with a mix of LEDs.

So I'm looking at wiring this in. https://ebay.us/I9SU8e
By my calculation, should handle 20 amps.
I really don't want to add in more load resistors, as that defeats the purpose of led in the first place.

Odd, I was thinking about ordering the third one for my truck.

I read something about having to flip the polarity of the flasher because the thermals don't care but the electric ones do. Might be worth trying. Wouldn't take much to wire up a couple jumpers. I think they are labeled for which one is the input but I don't remember.
