the air compressor is fed pressured oil from the back, somewhere near the oil cooler. THen it drains into the pedestal (big hole) and te pedestal s attached to the block. I don't know if you'd be able to fit it in a pickup truck. It's also liquid cooled from the cooling system, so you'd...- nsjames

you're going to need the clutch housing to use the trans. It's separate from the trans. You're going to have to drop the whole thing, unbolt the trans from clutch, then unbolt the clutch from the motor and leave it on the ground. I'l get you some pictures on my next afternoon off. be a...- nsjames

you'd be good. I'm running a 4.30 rear end with 33'ish tires. I top out at 73 full on against the governor. now, at some point in it's life mine had a new IP put on, and since I don't have a tach or timing setup I'm not entirely sure on my max RPM, so I can't tell you if that's 2800 IH...- nsjames

Junkyard IDI ZF-5s galore!
How close are you to Ohio? and does anyone think that the ZF trans would hold up to 26K lbs of GCVW? I NEED an OD tranny for my MDT toterhome, and if a ZF-5 will take the abuse it seems the easiest way to get one. WHat yoke is on the back of it, and is there a 1480 one available? sorry...- nsjames

How much weight off the back bumper?
it's probably got some sort of frame extension as well. They're usually not that strong, which is why a lot of campers have paltry tow ratings. Check the splice very well, reinforce as needed before you hang 800 lbs off the back.- nsjames

no, you have to pull the pinion to remove any of the shims/spacer. But if you pull the pinion you can put it back in with the same spacers/shims and it stays consistent. Crush sleeves get used once, so if you have to pull the pinion for any reason you get to buy a new crush sleeve, then set it...- nsjames

crush sleeves suck. Hard to get a consistent pinion preload, needs to be replaced if you have to take out the pinion for any reason and then reset to the hard to get preload. Generally find horrible times to fail while you're beating on the rear axle and wipes out the gear set. Solid spacers...- nsjames

air intrusion, sometimes
SO here's my issue. I have an International MDT with a N/A 7.3L It intermittently has air in the injection system. Classic starts, runs for 10 seconds then dies and takes some cranking. When I say intermittent it realy is. I had constant issues until I replaced the valve core in the...- nsjames

redoing fuel lines with steel??
ruber will be fine. If it has disconnect style clips at the fuel sender just slip the hose over the ridge and clamp it. When I make new fuel lines out of steel I use a brake flare tool to put a half flare on the end of the new steel line so there's a barb for the hose to slip over. Just make...- nsjames

next time you drill something like thats shaving sensitive cover the bit in grease. you'll have to stop and clean it often, but it will capture most all of the shavings.- nsjames

unfortunately someone blew up the rearend in this truck before it left uhaul. They replaced the 4.30 third member (rare as hen's teeth I'm finding) with a 5.57 rear end.
