zf-5 question

i'm sure this question has already been asked, i just can't seem to find it.

were there any zf-5's on the 6.9 and will it bolt to a 7.3?

Apparently, a very few 6.9l's were equipped with the ZF5 in '87...sort of a test-run.

As to interchangeability, a ZF from a 7.3l will bolt directly onto a 6.9l. However, you'll need the floor pan insert (where the gearshift lever comes out) from the 7.3l, along with the clutch and the tranny crossmember.

It's a worthwhile swap I swapped a ZF5 into my 6.9l in 2005, and am very satisfied with the results. I still want an OD unit (double-overdrive ), but that's just because 90% of my driving is on the highway.
