In my quest to eliminate the factory key-switch, I need to access the wiring at the wiper-switch plug.

Please understand that there are no less than ten-million extra wires, cables, etc. in the way and a big switch-panel that prevents my looking straight in at the wiper-switch stem.

Previously, I trimmed the plastic "pocket" away around the wiper-switch stem, such that the nut can be accessed without any plastic dash trim being removed; ditto for the head-light-switch.

Question #1 = What size/type socket is necessary to remove the nut that holds the switch into the dash ??


Question #2 = (I can get my hand onto the wiring plug at the back of the switch; I can't see, but I can touch) Just exactly how do I release the plug from the switch ??

I got set on the right path by someone who had recently had their own switch out.

The big plug just pulls straight off; no snap-latches or such.

I was very disappointed to see how tiny the factory wires are, especially seeing as they power the wiper-motor in all kinds of weather.

The main KEY-ON=HOT wire is no more than 18-AWG; I was expecting something more like 10-AWG.

Ford lack of engineering in play right there. When I did my first rebuild the wiper motor ran really slow makeing all kinds of grinding noise. Finally got it out and apart only to find one of the body magnets had come off the motor case. Got a rebuilt from Nappa. Installed it and the test was terrible. Wouldn't part or shut off when its supposed to. Took it back and you guessed it... They didn't have another... But could have one ....IN A FEW DAYS... So off to the pick n pull where I found one that had just been installed on a truck just before it was scrapped... Lucky me... The damn thing still had a clean build tab on it....

Many years ago, my original wiper-motor quit working.

I could bump it with a rubber mallet and it would work until I shut it off again.

I drilled out the rivets, cleaned and lubed the brush-ways, and re-assembled it, using bolts/nuts where the rivets had been.

My "rebuilt" wiper-motor has now out-lasted it's original life, works flawlessly, and "parks" as it should.


Without exception, every local truck around here that has had a new or rebuilt wiper-motor has the wipers laying wherever they stopped, with no "park" function whatsoever.
