Wiper Motor Removel???

I'm trying to remove my wiper motor but its kinda hard to figure it out. I have the cowl off and now it looks like the arms have a funny looking clip that holds them to the motor crank. How do I remove the clip?? I see the three screws that hold the motor to the firewall. Will the motor come out thru the firewall hole with the crank on it? Thanks all...

That clip slip locks over the end of the shaft and can be a PITA to get off. Usually it pops off and disappears into unknown.
It will come out of there with a little rotating.

yep the clip is a funny thing you have to lift it a little and slide it over and off, after that you listen to were it tinks on the floor 20 ft away. its not to bad actually after you figure it out. then yes like mentioned the motor will come out. you will have to tilt and shift it a little though.

Thanks for the inside tip on the spring clip goung to neverland when it comes off. I got it off and didn't loose it... Now the motor is off and completely apart... Shot to hell too. What was going on was the wipers worked verly slowly in all speeds. I found all the linkage free and loose so it had to be in the motor. Well, it turned out the motor magnets broke loose and were sticking to the rotating motor windings. I wonder how it turned at all. So I'm without wipers till I "find" another motor. Thanks for the heads up on the removal.

It stinks having to pull the cowl, but the motors last a good while, and it's not something you have to do real often. You really don't need your wipers anyway............it doesn't rain in sunny Souther California? He...he..he..

Yes... Its true about rain here. Gees, last year we got less rain hrer than Death Valley got and we know that wasn't much. Sure, my wiper motor lasted from 89 till now but why did the magnets come loose? I bet I could glue them back to the case but... If I'm wrong its a rotten job having to do twice. I'm not up for reworks....

my 89 was doing the same thing until they finally quit altogether - so i will probably just assume it was the same problem and buy a new wiper motor.
let me know if anyone knows where the best deals are on them. Local store wanted about $100 - does that sound right?

Wiper Motor From Nappa Suxs

Today I paid $73.00 for a rebuilt wiper motor from Nappa. It looked like some idiot just sprayed it with dry graphit spray. It came off that easy when I tried to wipe it clean. There was crap under the "paint" when it came out of the box.... So I install it and test run it before I put the cowl on... It sounds like it has rocks in the gears and makes a pop... Then it starts to quit down.... But it wont auto part. Anyplace I turn off the power it stays there. So off it comes and yep... You guessed it... Don't gots another one but I can have it here this afternoon... Maybe... Nope nope nope.. Gemme back my money and I'll go elsewhere. So off the to the local Ecology You Pull it and start looking at all the Mazdas and big and small ford trucks. I can go up to 96 year. So after looking at all the possible motors I find one that looks really new in a small ford truck. Same way to get it off as our trucks. So after about 20 minutes I have it in my hands and I'm off to pay for it... Then some @sshole beats me to the open window and pitches a tent trying to buy a truck... Dum@ss... I get in another line and finally find out they want $17.00 for it.... So now I'm home but first the wife wants me to feed the horses and exercise them.... Fat chance... They get there goody buckets and thats it. So I install and test the motor..... Runs so smooth you would think it was brand new... And a well spent $17.00 too... As for Nappa... They lost me for some time. I'll still buy oil and chemicals from them but nothing electrical for a while......

Napa quality is not what it used to be.Unfortunately, Napa has completely lost sight of the market that made them, the professionals! It was that reputation that drew the DIYers who knew what they were after in the door to buy quality, but the last few years, they changes focus to compete with auto zone instead, and they have changed all of their stock over to crap grade, where their rebuilt stuff used to hold up, now, it's usually total junk ( and you'd be better off at auto zone , at least there you get the lifetime warranty ) then Napa quit carrying the Victor Reinz gaskets and switched over to the consumer grade Felpros to cater to the DIY market, they completely abandoned the professional market.

There's some other chains that have taken up the slack in the professional parts service market if you want to find reliable quality parts. In this region, Car Quest is the one.

my new, not rebuilt, napa starter lasted about a week before starting to crap out. by two weeks, it was done. and no it was because i excessively cranked it.

Gary, I just cleaned up, and epoxied my magnets back onto the case.

Has been working fine for 3 years

Two fiddy.. I really thought about doing just that but the trouble it was getting the motor out and the scratches I made will keep me from "going in again" for a long time... I hope.... I will be painting my truck as time allows. I once was a painter so it wont be any trouble doing that. Just finding a place with a paint booth for rent will be ruff.
