Biggest problem in my case is defective parts. I've had just as many defective parts from Napa as I have Advance and Oreily. I just love going through the work of a 4hr project only to find out the part is defective after its installed and you get to do it again.

i stopped by tsc on the way home from school today and they did not have anything. tomorrow on the way to work i will stop by the welding shop and see what they have. i wish i could find a place that has the military terminals. i found them on amazon but it would be around $10 and probly another week. need this thing running fast. dad is getting pissed. for some odd reason i guess he feels that i don't want to drive my truck and am just slacking off on working on it. it is hard to get anything done when you go school full time and work on your days off. sunday is the only day i have to work on the truck and most places are closed on sunday.
Oriellys can get you the military terminals. Borg Warner part #bh315n for negative side, #bh315p for positive.
Oriellys can actually get you anything you want including compression type fittings that dont need soldering or crimping, crimp style fittings, and solder type fittings, 2/0 and 3/0 cable, etc. Most of it has to be ordered, but it is usually a next day thing....

for those of you that "crimp" your cables at home without the crimping tools, how do you go about getting a secure crimp?

NAPA can also get what u need, especially if they deal with big trucks. I personally perfer soldering the lugs on, and then if one feels the need to do so, crimp. U can buy crimpers that u hammer the lug shut. like this one shown here: http://www.electroauto.com/catalog/tools.shtml
Also, make sure u measure the attatching bolt so u can order the right size lug, they come in a variety of sizes (from 1/4" to 1/2") hole.

IIRC it was 6 or 4 awg. If u are going all out on this i would recommened upgrading the power wire from the starter solenoid to the glow plug controller as well to bypass the plug and two small wires. Check out my truck repair carnage thread for good pics on how i did my wiring.
But in a nutshell, i would get 0/2 or 0/3 power wires to run from driver to pass battery and pass battery to the starter, same for the ground, 4awg for the glow plug power wire and battey to starter solenoid. IIRC i should need 3/8" for the batteries, 5/16 for the starter solenoid and glow plug relay. But double check.

i'm not going to mess with the gp wire since it works right now. mabey later down the road.
i am going to go with 3/0 between bats, and 3/0 down to the starter.

i was thinking more about my gp wire. somebody has actually replaced those two small wires with one big wire like you did.

I know its way late in the thread but i have a napa batt cable story.
I went to napa and had them build me a custom cable. 2/0 between the batts and 3/0 to the starter. It was soldered and heat shrinked. Some time later i was working on my batt and broke the ears off the terminal they used. Very cheap stuff. When Seth was cutting it off we found a bunch of corrosion in the cable right where the terminal was soldered.
I used ring terminals and soldered them with my torch. Also use a marine adapter to bolt everything on.
Maybe the guys here dont know what they're doing, but my $93 battery cable didnt work so great for very long until i had to fix it....
