Well i have'nt tried starting my truck yet today, kinda bummed that i'm still dealing with hard start's and it's starting to look like bad compression is the culprit.. Been watching cold start video's on youtube and noticed all the ones that seem to start good have a clicking noise when the gp's are on, i've noticed this aswell on freinds trucks but mine has nothing, even after i put in new gp's and replaced the controller "used but newer" and wired the power wires direct. Does the click matter at all, i'm wondering if my gp's are realy working. My lite comes on and seems to stay on for the rite amount of time. Oh and ounce it kick's over it purs like a kitten, very smooth running with these "typ4" injectors;Sweet.... THANKS

Ever replace the relay? The relay is what 'clicks'. bad relay means NO POWER.

Without glowplug heat it will be hard to start too ;Really

What relay?? Still learning the in's and outs of the idi. I was just going by the fact that my lite comes on and stays on for required time, could this relay be my problem even if the lites working?? If so where is it at, i'll replace that sucker today.

Very well could be. The controller turns the light on and off not the relay, if I remember correct.

In this picture the relay is the round brown device on the right half with 4 studs on top. two are big and two are small. This will click ON and click off as used. You can manually test the relay too let me see if I can find you some pictures

better pics and how to do a manual controller, etc:

I'm too tired to recall how to manually trigger the stock configuration. I want to say make a small 3" wire with both ends stripped and touch the always hot post to the S-signal small post and it will trigger the relay if it isn't shot. But no promises - its 6am here...

Also if your ever stranded because one of these relays dies, take a screw driver and wedge it between the two big posts to manually power the glow plugs. Be careful because that is alot of amperage - enough to easily injure/kill, and it will spark and can take out little chunks of metal on cheap tools. If you wedge it between you'll get good clamping force. then use a watch or count to 8 if your good enough at it. Unless its cold then go longer perhaps.

Thats funny i replaced the whole unit on mine and neither one seems to CLICK, my uncle is here now 20 year deisel machanic and he too said he think's the relay is not sending enough volts to the gp's.. Started pretty good thou today, about 30 degree's out and i hit the gp's 3 times while he was listening under the hood. Did'nt touch the throttle at all, started in about 5 secounds first try..

Does your voltage gauge drop when you turn the key on while the wts light is on then when the wts goes out does the volt gauge go back to normal

unhook or if the insulation is gone, take a 12v test light clamp it to ground and probe the glow plug connection while someone turns the key to on, not start.

if you get juice then the relay is working just fine. no juice means either the controller or relay, or the wiring to or from them isn't working.

Then you can try manually triggering the relay. if it works then the controller is either bad, hooked up wrong, or has a bad connection(s).

I ditched the automatic glowplug system since everything else is manual on my truck. I even had the latest solid state system:eek::rolleyes:;Sweet
